To Paul's family, friends and brothers and sisters of the Martinez Police Department and the Costa Costa Sheriff's Office, we were all deeply saddened and worried when we heard about the shooting. Although I only met Paul a couple of times I always heard good things about him from my brother, a fellow MPD Officer. Be strong and don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it, Chief Simonetti is a good man and he will assist you in anyway possible.

To Sgt. Paul Starzyck, his wife and children, to all family members and friends who call him beloved, and to his law enforcement family at Martinez Police Dept:
I was heartbroken to learn of today's tragic events and extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Staryck family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.
There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Paul's memory will be forever honored and revered.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of service Paul gave to the Martinez community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 6, 2008.
