Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Marty Michael Martin

I miss you bro and think about you all the time. I am still in a state of disbelief that you are gone. It still seems like a dream. You were someone who impacted people and left your mark. Your memory lives on through the life of your family and friends and those who were touched by you. Heroes never die!!!!

To Marty and Jody on their anniversary

We do not need a special day to bring you to our minds.
The days we do not think of you are very hard to find.

Each morning when we awake, We know that you are gone.
And no one knows the heartache as we try to carry on.

Our hearts still ache with sadness, and secret tears still flow. What it meant to lose you no one will never know.

Our thoughts are always with you. Your place no one can fill.
In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still.

There will always be a heartache, and often a silent tear,
But always a precious memory of the days when you were here

If tears could make a staircase, and heartaches make a lane
We'd walk the path to Heaven and bring you home again.

We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain, To walk with us throughout our lives until we meet again.

Our family chain is broken now, and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

We love you,
George and Nancy

Marty,
I can't believe it's been a year since your passing. It still feels like yesterday. We all miss you so much.

You would be so honored by the way your fellow officers continue to remember you. On the anniversary of the accident, the family went to the cemetery, dinner, and then a candle light vigil organized by your co-workers. It was so touching.

I also want to thank the FCSO, especially Brian Toth, for their support throughout this past year.

A year ago your family gave the ultimate sacrifice, you.
You will never be forgotten.
My son also died on September 6 and he was also 35 years old.
As time goes back it gets more tolerable but it never goes away. I know you are thought about every day.
God bless your family, friends and co-workers.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I hold your loved ones in my heart's embrace. They have endured a lot of losses.

Rest In Peace.

Marty,
I can’t believe that we are coming up on a year. This week has been the worst. I plan on driving to Columbus to visit you on the 6th and I know that I will not be able to keep it together.
Last month something funny happened to me, I can’t even remember what it was now, but I went to call you to tell you about it. That was a shock. It was also a shock that I still refuse to remove your phone number from my cell phone, maybe in a way it is keeping a piece of you alive.
I wish you were here. I miss you.

Marty,
Today is August 2nd, 2009 and I wanted to write to you. In May, we went to Police Week in DC and it was so beautiful. The Sheriff and I escorted your family and your family did great. Brother, your family misses you so much and so do I. Chuck Davis organized a 5k race in your honor, I assisted him and we were able to raise money for Get Behind The Badge and for Kyle. Now we are planning a Poker Run and the proceeds will benefit Kyle and Deputy Doug Davis that was critically injured in a motorcycle crash.
Tonite I will see your son and I promise to Kiss him for you. He is so big and is growing up so fast. Kyle misses you so very much and Laura is doing an awesome job in raising him. At the Police memorial Kyle cried during the candle light ceremony and all of our hearts crumbled.

Brother "STING", I love you brother and miss you. You keep those streets of Heaven safe and strong. Until we see you again, we will continue to honor you and you will always be in our hearts.

Love you brother,

Brian

Marty,

I miss you so much! I went to your gravesite on Saturday and all I could do was cry. It is still not real to me. I was told by Chad that I should be thankful for all the memories and moments that I have had with you. I think the day we met would sum up our entire friendship: I came to work at Cub Too! (wow, that dates me) and walked into the break room pissed that I was just pulled over for the first time. I was firing statements about Police Officers purposely picking on teenage drivers. You fired back stating that maybe teenagers shouldn't cause so many problems on the road. I glared at you and said "Well ... I'm a teenager!" and you looked at me and said "Well (in that mocking tone of yours) ... I'm a cop." Foot in mouth. We were friends ever since. You were a big brother to me - you were there when I went to college, even helped me move to campus. You were there for every mile-marking event in my life and now you are gone. I miss you!!

Thank you to all of your friends who are sharing their thoughts and stories - it is helping a great deal.

Love you always,

Karen

Marty,

I've been meaning to do this for a while, but always seem to find a good reason not to.

Funny how it seems like just yesterday that you were here with us. It also seems like forever. There is not a days that goes by that I don't think of you. And, rest assured, Kyle misses you 100x more than I ever could.

I think you would be glad to know that Kyle is doing well. His reading is improving, slowly but surely. He may need the intervention and a tutor for the summer, but I hope not. Kyle got all A's and B's on his last report card.

He has lost a few more teeth since you last saw him and he must have grown a few inches, too.

Kyle has his first crush on a girl at school. It is the cutest thing. He writes her notes and swears that he "loves" her. You would definitely get a kick out of it.

You would be proud of him. He is a great kid.

I was saddened to read today in the Dispatch that your wife passed on after a long battle with cancer. I do however, take comfort in knowing that you are both together once again. God Bless your family and keep looking out for us up there.

Well, it's been 6 months since the accident. I still miss you so much everyday. I just can't believe you're not here. Today is a beautiful day. You would be out working on your farm enjoying one of the few warm early spring days.

Sting,
I am sorry for not writing in over a month. Brother, we are plaining the Washington DC trip to honor you brother. I have never been there but I am going this year and so is your family, especially your little boy. I wish you were here brother, you know I need your help with this new puppy i have..lol.

Today I read that a cop was killed in the Cleveland area by means of being struck by a vehicle and that brought back all the feelings I have had since September the day you were taken from us.

Deputy Chuck Davis has put together a 5k race and walk on June 20th in your honor. The event is going to be a huge success and all the proceeds will go to Get Behind The Badge. I am helping him with all the plaining and it will be nice. We will even honor you there and have your son there to receive your honor.

Brother I am out. Until we meet again, I love you and miss you.

STING,
This week at the awards banquet you got a standing ovation brother, as you should. Your wife was there to accept your award for saving the male that was about to be run over in a domestic situation. Everyone said the same thing, " What a good dude." We miss you brother and until we meet again, take care. Happy Thanksgiving brother.

Marty, first I must apoligize for not writing something to you earlier. For that I am sorry. I am a dispatcher at the Circleville Patrol Post and I hold a commission at the Ross County Sheriff's Office, so this hit me two-fold. I talked to your mother-in-law a while back, but never had the honor of speaking to you or Jody. Please rest easy and know that the family in blue will take care of your immediate family and friends. I will hold each and every one of them in my prayers. May God Bless you and yours.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Martin. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on face book. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Marty, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Marty's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Marty's life was about so much more than the way he died. Marty will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Deputy Martin, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost six years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Marty,
Last thursday the 16th we had a fund raiser for both you and officer Haley of CPD.This was by far the biggest fundraiser we had ever done. The turn out was remarkable. Just as I told you before that I would throw you a fundraiser if something ever happened to you, however, if you remember we laughed about it. I never thought I would have ever had to plan a fundraiser for you . Kyle was there and boy was he excited. Mike Gross had a beautiful shadow box made but he couldn't present it to Jodi, so I did.

Brother, every day I work in Grove City all I do is think about you and all of our times together. I miss you buddy.

I promise we will take care of Jodi and Kyle like we have been doing. You watch over us STING, we need you to continue to be our go to person, even if you are not here. I love you brother......Blinks
