Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Marty Michael Martin
Hey buddy. Today we said goodbye. I hated it. I was not ready to say goodbye. Because we started SIU together, am closer to you than anyone in there. When everyone said today what a patient teacher you are, they were right. Even though we started the unit at the exact same time, I stil come to you when I have questions. They cleaned your desk out a couple of days ago. I know they did it for Jody, and for the unit to begin healing. I am selfish, however. I wanted your desk to stay like it was so I could pretend you are in vacation. I still cannot accept that you have left us. I miss you.
Always, Candy

Marty,
Although I worked with you in the jail, I only truly met you during these last six months. Despite this, I feel as though I have lost a childhood friend. We never spent much time with each other outside of work, but I can not explain the bond I felt we made between each other. You were always there when I needed you and were a person who was looked up to by all. Lately, my days have been long and my nights have been short. I never imagined that someone I have known for such a short time would have a lifetime effect on my family and I. This just further shows what an astonishing person you were. I will do whatever it takes to keep you honored within our unit. Although your desk may be taken, and your vehicle driven, you will always hold a special place within SIU. You were a great police officer and made everyone around you feel special. You will be forever remembered as a hero. I am sorry your time here was cut short and I can not explain the happiness I feel to have known you, and the grief I feel to have lost you.

Marty,
Today we led you to your final resting place. Although it was one of the best send offs I had ever attended it was probably one of the hardest to go through. As we carried you from the funeral home to the awaiting hearse. I felt honored to have met you and paying you this final tribute of respect. For the many who attended it was evident you were loved by everyone whose lives you touched. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Rest easy my brother.

Marty,
Today we had your service and laid you to rest. This was probebly one of the most difficult days of my life, as well as other Deputies and police officers that were there. There were so many cruisers and citizens there were at your service and not a dry eye in the sky. When the communication center aired for your car#31 and no response, then placed you out of service, that was difficult but needed to be done.
Right now words can not explain how I am feeling, except for the fact that I miss you dearly. I will miss our long conversations and all your wisdom. God bless you brother. Please run heaven like you did the streets of Columbus and rock on .Your son was a true champ today, just as you raised him to be.
I love you Marty and thank you for being the best co-worker/ partner anyone could ever ask for.I will talk to you soon..........BLINKY

As a new deputy over 9 years ago my first impression of you was a good one. You always treated people with respect and dignity, this I will never forget. Once you left the jail I rarely seen you, but when I did, you always had a smile on your face and you had not changed one bit. You were still the engaging, polite, good-natured man that you had been when you were a younger officer. I did not know you well, at best you were an acquaintance. It is this fact that shows just how special of a person you were. I hardly knew you, yet the knowledge of your passing truly has left me with a profound sense of loss. I will always remember you not only as a good officer, but as wonderful human being.

Fallen Officer’s Prayer
I Never Dreamed It Would Be Me.
My Name For All Eternity.
Recorded Here At This Hallowed Place.
Alas, My Name, No More My Face.
'In The Line of Duty' I Hear Them Say.
My Family Now The Price To Pay.
My Folded Flag Stained With Their
Tears.
We Only Had Those Few Short Years.
The Badge No Longer On My Chest.
I Sleep Now In Eternal Rest.
My Sword I Pass To Those Behind And
Pray They Keep This Thought In Mind.
I Never Dreamed It Would Be Me.
And With A Heavy Heart And Bended
Knee, I Ask For All Here From The
Past...
Dear God, Let My Name Be The Last.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

To the family and friends of Deputy Marty Martin and the members of the Franklin County Sheriff's Dept.
On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Deputy Martin was tragically killed.
To Deputy Martin's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
Heaven may have another hero, but how I wish it wasn't so. In reading his reflections, I can see that Marty was an amazing young man.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Marty gave to his community and the citizens of Ohio, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 6, 2008.

I've also sat her and looked at these pages several times and tried to think of something to say. I'm hurtng inside and the funeral is in 24hrs...So it's going to get even worse....
Being the first responder along with Deputy Satterfield I didn't want to believe it was a Deputy that we were giving cpr to...We tried are best but what was done couldn't be undone. In my 9 years as a Deputy I never excpected this to happen...
I'm proud to have worked with you....you are one of the good guys....I honestly can't think of one negative thing about you...Marty you are one of the most complete officers I know...Thanks for your service
