Patrolman Karl's son Don passed away on August 01, 2016, nearly 73 years after his heroic actions led to his death. His son, who was only 9 years old when his father was killed in the line of duty, led a very active and successful life, passing away at 81 years old in Eau Claire, MI.
Don was born May 20, 1935 in Chicago, IL to James & Rose Marie (Janousek) Karl. He attended Marmion Military Academy and went on to receive his Bachelors in Business Management from DePaul University. On November 4, 1961 he wed Marie Alessio in Chicago, IL. Don worked in Sales Management in the Auto Industry for most of his life until he retired. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus for most of his life as well.
He had five children, Theresa Knizek, Kathryn (Tom) Altholz, Donald (Ana) Karl Jr., James (Kristin) Karl and Kevin Karl, and nine grandchildren and sister Susan Vismek, who survives today. May they rest together in heaven

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 70tg anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
