The last time we saw Rob was in the summer of 2008. We were visiting from London, and on our last night, we gathered around the PlayStation and had an American Idol competition, belting songs into the microphone. Krysten and Treasa made it to the final, and Krysten prevailed. There was a lot of laughter, and not even Simon Cowell’s barbed comments could spoil the fun we had. Rob thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and must have been proud of Krysten’s award-winning performance. We said our goodbyes, and left the next morning.

He would have come to our wedding in Ireland the following summer. And he would have become an uncle to our three kids. They know Uncle Rob — we have several pictures of him in our house. They have been to his grave, and to the Robert Curry Police Station in downtown Gulfport. They know he died in service. They are proud of the important job he did and Aunt Leslee continues to do.

We try to make it back to Mississippi as often as we can, and it is fun to think about what we would have done with him during these breaks over the years. Undoubtedly, there would have been fishing trips in the Back Bay. Basketball in the driveway. Baseball in the garden. Horseplay in the pool. And family dinners, at which Rob would have regaled us with inimitable stories about life, the universe, and everything.

Rob, I have visited your memorial page many times over the years but was never able to write. I would get too teary eyed to see the screen, then would just close the laptop. We were in the Air Force Security Police together at Keesler. You were one of the few friends I had during my time there. I will always remember the dating advice you gave me one morning before roll call, LOL and how you could light up a room when you walked in. I left Mississippi in 1996 to join the Virginia State Police and lost contact in the pre-social media days. I remember being horrified two years later to hear about your passing from another former Air Force SP, crying and thinking this has to be mistake, it can't be Rob. God can't take somebody so young who had such a positive impact on the people around him. I Love you my Brother of the Badge.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the fifth anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Leslee and family,

No one person can sum up the life of another.

Mere words cannot contain these intuitive feelings that we all share.

This heroic life will remain as it is remembered by those who loved and watched and shared this human experience with Rob.

For such memories are entirely alive, unbound by events of birth or of death.

And, as living memories, you possess the greatest gift one person can give to another.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.

I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the star shine of the night.

I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Those we have held in our arms for a little while, we hold in our hearts forever, my friend.

Today, we still carry his shield forward with our human will and use it to protect others just as Rob would do, in his wonderfully unique style, for the greater good.

It is what we do and you know we are here for you.

Bob, sorry it took so long to tell you how much I miss you, but you know. I don't really know why I'm saying this now, as I talk to you all the time anyway. Thank you for keeping me company on my way back and forth to work. As I tell you everyday. you need to help keep cops safe -especially Leslie and Samantha(when she becomes one-she's still waiting for the call and wants to follow in your footsteps to be like her HERO-her Uncle). That scares me to no end but makes me a proud Dad and Brother. Looking forward to seeing you and getting another one of those big long hugs we always gave each other......just hope you can wait awhile. You may have looked up to me growing up as I was older, but as they say, times change and now I look up to you.....sorry as I know you wouldn't like that, but.....DEAL WITH IT

ROB IT HAS NOW BEEN A YEAR AND A HALF SINCE YOU LEFT US. I REMEMBER THE MORNING I RECIEVED THE DEVASTATING NEWS OF YOUR ACCIDENT. WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS THE EMOTIONS THAT COME AND GO FROM TIME TO TIME, AND WE HAVE TRIED TO STAY AS ACTIVE IN LESLEE, KRYSTEN AND TREVORS LIVES AS OUR DISTANCE ALLOWS. WE TRULY MISS YOU, AND YOU WOULD BE EXTREMELY PROUD OF YOUR WIFE AND KIDS AS THEY HAVE BEEN PUTTING THEIR LIVES BACK TOGETHER. I AM TRULY PROUD TO HAVE BEEN YOUR FRIEND AND COWORKER AND YOU TRULY TOUCHED EVERYONES LIVES IN A POSITIVE WAY. I WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO LAUGHING AND REMINISCING ABOUT OLD TIMES WITH YOU ONCE AGAIN ON THE OTHER SIDE. WE WERE TRULY BLESSED TO HAVE SPENT THE TIME WITH YOU WE WERE GIVEN.
