To his kids: I don't know if you will ever read this, but if you do, I want you to know your dad is a hero now and forever. And he loves you now and forever. May God give you the strength to carry on.

It's not in how Monte died that makes him a hero,
It's in how he lived.

To those who loved Officer Ruby, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. It's been a long hard road, and even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Monte will always be a part of yours.
It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Officer Ruby for helping to make this world a better place. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. I know this isn't a very manly thing to do, but if you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. Dennis was a good man and we miss him more than words can say.
Wishing those who loved you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne

Monte,
We lost another Officer a few weeks ago, on his way home from work. Say hi to Perkel when you see him up there. Its been hard to lose two great officers in such a short time.

To the family and friends of Officer Monte Ruby and his fellow officers and most especially to Monte:
On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Ruby was tragically killed.
To Officer Ruby's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Monte gave to his community and the citizens of Missouri, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 6, 2008

For sixteen years Monte and I worked together, never a dull moment. He was a true friend, like a father at times, like a brother, He meant more to me than most will ever know. He is and will always be greatly missed. I now have his post and feel he walks with me everyday. Just as he did in life he will in death. Always watching over me. May the true hero enjoy his many days off at last.

Monte,
I always enjoyed working with you way back when at
Cox. I think the last time we ran into each other
was the night my grandson was born a year or so ago...
who knew that would be the last time our paths would cross. May God bless you and your family.

I met Monte some years ago in Kansas City when I was on a training for my employment and he was there at a training for his. I met Monte and also some of his colleagues. They were very friendly and nice. We stayed in touch over the years via email and phone. I considered Monte a very dear friend.
My heartfelt sympathy go out to his family and friends.
My world is a more lonely place without him in it. I could always count on Monte for a listening ear, understanding, good conversation and many laughs. I was always impressed with what a genuinely good man he was. I will miss him dearly.

It was an honor being part of the honor guard for your funeral. Most of all it was an honor knowing ya even as little as I did. The one thing I will remember about you, as will I think everyone that knew you is your smile.
