Reflections for Detective Michael Smith Phillips

He was a true friend and a great father and husband. I knew Mike way before our days on Hampton PD together. He was a very young and ambitious young Airman when I first met him. Always thought he was a very intelligent and bright young man. I was very pleased and honored when he joined the ranks of Hampton PD. He is truly missed!!!

It has been a very tough couple of months. You have been on all of our minds so much lately, mine and both girls. Can't figure what is going on but we know you are watching over us because you keep leaving little reminders. We still struggle a lot with the 'Why' of what happened and Why you. But keep doing what you do best, watching over all of us in the family and all your family in blue. Love you and miss you so much.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the fifth anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and miss you for I know that both the pain and pride are forever. I thank your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Detective Phillips, thank you for your unselfish service to your community. Unfortunately sometimes we serve a very selfish and unkind community. I know you did your best to protect your community from ignorance and self destruction. No one deserves to die the way you did, and for those ignorant citizens who believe you should've died a terrible death, they forget, DEATH AWAITS THEM AS WELL!
God bless you and your family Detective Phillips

Mike,
I still cannot believe that they took you from us. It simply isn't right. You served so bravely and are an example for us all. Your courage will inspire me for many years to come.
To your family, my deepest condolences. Though time has passed I know that times are still hard. As the daughter of two police officers I cannot even begin to imagine what I would do if either of my parents were taken from me for the selfish reasons of another.
My heart and prayers with you always

What a giving man you were. You served your country in war. You served citizens in peace. So many people miss you. You did so much giving, I know you are being rewarded now. I think sometimes the good die young because they have learned their lessons and are ready to go. It won't make him missed any less. The ones we miss the most are the ones who touched our hearts with love. The love of a wife, the love of a child, the love of a grateful community. Job well done, rest in peace.

Merry Christmas, Mike. Thank you for a beautiful White Christmas. Still thinking of you always. Requiem in pacem. Terri, if you are reading this, please know that there are many, if not all, of us who think about you and the boys often. The way you are able to stay strong through the nightmare is incredible and has made you one of my heroes. I know Mike is so proud of all three of you when he looks down from Heaven's Beat. I hope this message sees you well.

Mike, went out to Rod's yearly get together at Murphy's last night which, of course, caused us to think about you too. Hasn't been two years yet and sometimes I still expect that round head of yours to pop into my office here at the 2nd to ask me some question that I cannot answer :). You were one of the few who could stump me. Everybody still misses you greatly down here and ask the question, "why?" Well, only God has that answer. We are left to remember your sacrifice as well as your dedication and work ethic. You set the bar high. Now we honor your memory by trying to reach that bar every day. God bless you, and your family.
