Only today could i for the first time open this page to view to reflections left. I was getting ready to call it a night last Thursday when I heard over the radio your team members calling a signal 13, and the panic in their voices told me immediately it was not good. I couldn't get there fast enough, I wish I was there for you, buddy. This didn't have to happen, this shouldn't have happened; but it did and we all feel completely helpless. The look on your teams face said it all when I got there.
You were truly well liked and respected within the department. Nothing but kind words have been spoken since this happened. Everyone is still numb over your loss, but we will make it through this; it will take a long time, but we'll make it. Try not to worry about those you left behind, we will make sure they are looked after. I will always remember and will never forget. You and Rod will be with me the rest of my days.

Detective Phillips, just looking at your picture tells me of the joy you found in your job and in life. I've read the reflections of those who love and miss you. My prayers go out to those who have signed this page and those who haven't and perhaps will not. Nevertheless, to your family, friends, and the VBPD, may God give you the strength to carry on. He may be gone, but because you love him, he lives forever.

As a Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, State Police veteran, and currently with the US Department of Veterans Affairs, I have lived and experienced the lost of a brother in the line of duty, what my heart and soul can say to my brothers in uniform in Virginia is, you have lost an awsome cop, human being, and a friend but our Lord in heaven has received a HERO a new member of his celestial force. My heart goes out to his family!!!

Hey Mike, You came from Hampton the same time I came from Norfolk .We sat in a few classes together at LETA. I wish I got to know you better, but what I remember of you was a guy that always liked to talk and was very passionate about his family and profession. Mike, you are a fellow brother and will always be missed. RIP brother and God bless and comfort your family. We will continue the watch, and to the savages that took your life ,,,,,may they fry in hell.
