Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Dennis Carl Compton
It was a tragedy losing you so soon brother. I can't believe it's already been 16 years since that tragic night happened.
I still remember All those evenings studying, laughing, chilling, drilling and just getting to know each other. They will never be forgotten... I pray your family has done the best they could in your absence. I'm ashamed to say I didn't keep in touch. Continue to rest easy brother.

We were up in D.C. this week for the memorial service because we lost one of ours last year. I found your name on the wall also. You are not forgotten brother. Even though we only met through the academy I still remember you. Your sacrifice has made me a safer officer and I believe it has saved my life. RIP friend.

I grew up and went to school with Dennis in Alexandria, Virginia area (the 80's.) after high school we made a goof around music video.....and Dennis was the only one with talent. I am trying to locate his wife, as I would love to give a copy of this video to her, and to share with all his children. (Dennis is between the age of 19-21 in the video)he was a incredible person, a good friend, and always stood his ground for what was right....thanks, Robert Danz ( bobby D.)

Dennis (S535): It was 4 years ago today that your watch ended (8-6-08) and it seems like just yesterday! I heard the news and hoped like hell it was just a dream. You were an awesome friend! So encouraging and uplifting! Your funeral announcement still lays on my bedroom dresser. I really miss my "Picture" karaoke duet partner. I think of you every time I hear it and tear up. I've only been able to sing it once or twice since you left. Time going by does NOT make it easier. I miss you & can't wait to sing with you again one day in Heaven... ***HUGS***

To this very day I think of that night. I continuously think to myself that it could have very well been me. Compton and I were brothers in law enforcement and became very close while working on the road together. We had some really good times that I will never forget. After his death, I thought..should I leave this career that I love and enjoy because of it being so dangerous, never knowing if you are going to return home the same or at all, or do I let my brothers life be in vain. Still to this day I remain, fighting, and upholding the law because of my brother and the oath that I made to God and myself. Thanks brother...you will always be remembered and never forgotten.

Before Dennis became a Deputy Sheriff, he was a great guitar player and a loved and respected friend. Dennis and I played together for a number of years and I remember him as always smiling, always kind, and level headed, even when some of us weren't. He is missed.
