It's been 15 years and it still seems like it was yesterday. 15 years without "Big Al" bursting into a room and being the star of the show. Time passes but no one will forget. Al was genuine in everything he did and with everyone he knew. Miss you Big Al.

As a retired police officer from Santa Monica who grew up at the Port Dickinson Police Station, I extend my thoughts and prayers to the extended Rossi family.

Because of my attachment to the PDP, Aldo Rossi was a member of my own family and the loss was just as heartfelt.

May God bless you, Aldo, and may his face shine upon you forever.

Two years and change since you left us. I would give anything to pick up the phone and hear "Hey, it's Big Al!" one more time. We miss you brother. Always will.

Aldo,

I was just looking at some pictures and movies from our time at the academy. I've been going through some difficult times with the job and it was nice to see the way things were a few years ago, when we were all fresh-faced and we didn't know what we were getting into...we really didn't know any better. Funny to hear your voice in some of the movies, kinda makes it seem like it was yesterday, but at the same time, it feels like it's been an eternity. Thanks for reminding me why I wanted to be a cop in the first place- I think we all forget that from time to time. Rest in peace, brother.

Aldo Rossi was a police officer that I got the chance to know during the tour of duty that he served with the Deposit Police Department. Having met and knowing Ofc. Rossi I know for a fact that Aldo loved the work that he did in law enforcement. Aldo Rossi worked with some of the finest police officers in the business. Donald Cantwell who is now the chef of police in deposit misses a fallen hero who gave his life in the line of duty.
I as a citizen of deposit will never forget when I first heard that one of our police officers was hit by a car while on duty my first thought was that it was another officer witch I knew worked for Owego Police Dept., I tried to contact that officer whom I did not get a hold of till two days later.
Rumors started flowing that a part time police officer that worked for Port Dick Police was killed. I did not believe it had any thing to do with our part time officer being hit by a car till the next day when I went to work and saw the black flag hanging above the door of the Deposit Police station. Then at that time I knew the worst had happened to Deposit Police and the small town that they all served, a officer killed and not only killed but killed in the line of duty.
Still not knowing witch officer was killed the night before I went in to speak to Chef Cantwell who told me that Ofc. Rossi had passed after being struck by a car. Days later I read in the paper that there was more to the story. Reading the Binghamton Press & Sunn I learned that Ofc. Rossi was waiting for D.O.T. team to remove a tree from the road (talking to another motorist) when he was struck by a drunk driver.
Ofc. Rossi was not only a police officer he was a hero, a friend, a brother and husband but I got to know him as Ofc. Rossi a police men Deposit Police the police officer that helped to keep me out of trouble when I was younger. Aldo and his co. workers such as Sgt. Demarco and chef Cantwell still to this day do much to help me in the quest that I call my life helping me with things that seem so small to them but there huge to me. These things being just the issues of teenage life to even helping me with my senior project in high school. The men that he worked with loved him not as a co. worker but as a brother. One life taken that can never be replaced.

To those who loved Officer Rossi, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. It's been a long hard road, and even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Aldo will always be a part of yours.

It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Officer Rossi for helping to make this world a better place. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. I know this isn't a very manly thing to do, but if you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. Dennis was a good man and we miss him more than words can say.

Wishing those who loved you brighter and better days,

To the family and friends of Officer Aldo Rossi and to his fellow officers, and most especially to Aldo:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to extend condolences for the grievous loss you suffered when Aldo so tragically lost his life. His heroism, valor and bravery will be forever remembered.

May you be continue to be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you.

Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot in April of 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are experiencing. We know the meaning of lives forever changed because of the criminal acts of others.

Rest in Peace, Aldo. May your spirit continue to soar and your memory continue to inspire.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Aldo gave to his community and the citizens of New York, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 27, 2008.
