Peace Officer Andrew Widman...Another Warrior for Saint Michael!!

I AM A WARRIOR
—by Jon F. Hooper
I stand with God. I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary.
I fight for those who can’t. I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the downtrodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets,
for I serve to protect the Innocent.
It matters not where or when, for Evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing, for it was my honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy:
For now, I STAND WITH GOD!!!!

To the Wife, Children and Family of Officer Widman:

Our hearts fell so deeply when we read of Andrew's death. It saddens us to learn that Andrew has died under very similar circumstances, as our son did on 12-19-07, just before Christmas. We immediately logged on to this odmp, as you will, too. Chris of odmp, is a great resource of COPS, Concerns of Police Survivors, who are with you, right now, and will be right beside you, the rest of your lives, to help you and be there to lean on. You and your children have Guardian Angels, for life, and beyond.

Please, take compfort in knowing that your husband, your Daddy, son and brother, has truly died a HERO! He will NEVER be forgotten, as his DEEDS have spoke his final words. May the Good Lord Bless You and Keep you all. We will see you in DC, next year. You are SURVIVORS, and things WILL get better.

On behalf of the Tampa Police Department, we send our deepest sympathies. The loss of a brother leaves a void with us all. It is especially personal to me, as Officer Widman is from Monclova Township and I am from Toledo. The story of his sacrifice has made headline news in Toledo's paper.

His sacrifice will not be forgotten and his name honored by all. To the family, please allow the support from his brothers and sisters to get you through this time. Police Officers are resilient by nature and are well versed in dealing with tragedies. God Bless you and the members of the Fort Myers Police Department.

I met Andy when he was younger. His mother, Marty, was a nurse in my office for a number of years. She was proud of Andy and his accomplishments. I share Marty's memory of her son and am very saddened by his death while serving his country. I pray that God grace his family as Andy graced those whose knew Andy.

It affects us all greatly when one of the people sworn to protect us is killed in the line of duty. My thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Widman's family, as does my profound appreciation to all of law enforcement for the job they do every day. We are so lucky in this country to live in relative safety, and much of this is due to people like Officer Widman.

Thank you.

A poem for you, and your family, that I wrote a while before I almost died:
The air is full of flying things
Butterflies, and angel wings

Things unseen, and things unspoken
Life on earth is but a token

One day less, than one day more
Things have changed, yet just as before.

RIP, Andrew Widman.

I am praying for this downed Officer, and his family. I know one of his colleagues, by email only. I wish this had not happened to Officer Widman, and I pray for my email friend to stay out of harm's way. I know she is attending his funeral, today, Wednesday, 7/23/08. The whole department has my condolence.
