I don't know who wrote this, but it's appropriate.
Just imagine the "beauty" of a loved ones soul leaving this earth to once again joing the stars; as they go, whispers can be heard saying "I remember you" as they welcome them home.

My sincere condolences go out to the Rivera Family. I had the pleasure of serving with Officer Rivera while assigned to the USS NASSAU (LHA 4) and speaking with him on several occasions about a career in law enforcement. He served his country with honor and will be sorely missed.

It's hard to put into words how sad I feel for you; the family and friends of officer Jose Rivera. When I heard of his untimely death, my heart was heavy. The Bureau is a family and Jose was my brother not only for being a fellow officer, but for being a war veteran of the U.S.Navy. I served in the Navy during Desert Storm. Jose will be honored now and forever and we will never forget his sacrafice. I am very sorry for your loss. May god be with you in your time of grief.

I was floored to hear the news of his passing. Several of us (BOP Staff) were all out together the night it happened, when we received the text message telling us what happened. The entire mood changed. We were all devestated. I will never forget the feeling of losing one of your own. We are all family here. Though I didn't know him I feel like I lost a dear friend. You will be in all of our thoughts and prayers here at USP Lee. May God be with the Rivera family to get them through this tough time. You will be missed.

May God Bless the family of Officer Rivera. May they know that Officer Rivera is a true hero. A hero like more than 200,000 other heroes in this country who enter into prisons each and every day to provide protection for the society in which we live. Society as a whole will never know of the sacrifices of Officer Rivera or others who have gone before him. Those of us in the business always will. For the past several days I have been reading the many comments put on the officer down pages and I am very proud to be associated with staff who have reached out. Am I surprised, no, that is just the way we are. We recognize and realize but by the grace of God go I and realize that each day we go into the institutions and hear the slider close we are ourselves at risk. A life we choose. A life of honor. A life of service and sacrifice. A life where taking care of each other has real meaning as each and everyone who this job understood by few.
May the staff of USP Atwater know we feel your pain. We share in your grief. May God Bless each of you and help each of you make your memories of Officer Rivera good ones. Hold him in the esteem we know you always will. We all hold Officer Rivera's memory close and always will. We hope and pray this will be the last staff member whose name graces these pages.

There aren't enough words to express the sadness I feel for loosing a brother officer. When I received the call I was with other Bureau friends and when I started to cry they asked me what was wrong. I told them that we had lost a fellow officer. I immediately saw the shock and dispare in their faces and could feel their pain as well. My deepest sympathy to all those effected by this tragic loss. We shall never forget your sacrefice Jose. Rest well my brother. EOW 6/20/08 @ 4:15 p.m.
