My heart hurts for Trooper Blanton's family and fellow officers.
Since this department lost it's first officer in March 2008, I have felt a sadness that just won't go away. Please know that others feel your pain too, and that Trooper Blanton will never be forgotten. His memory and his family will be always in our prayers.
May you find some peace and comfort in the days to come knowing that this officer is now patrolling the highways for our Lord and Savior.

I am so sorry to hear of this tragedy. I hold my breath each time I come to this site hoping today there will be no new entries. Yesterday, this hit close to home again. All officers of the law are our family and it hurts so much to lose another. My heart is breaking for your family and your tiny baby. Just know that Jeff Hewitt, Anthony Cogdill and Joe Ray among others were waiting for Trooper Blanton when he arrived in Heaven.
Mrs. Blanton, I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. Just know that it is beyond our understanding, but God does have a greater purpose. Please know that I am at your disposal. If there is anything at all that I can do for you...please let me know. There are so many people that are here to support you and we know what you are going through. If I can do anything...If it's helping you at home or just being there to offer a shoulder to cry on...I am here for you. We are family...so please don't hesitate to call on me. 828-779-8809

We are deeply saddened by this senseless murder. May the ruthless criminal responsible be brought to justice and sentenced to the most severe penalty. You are a true hero who made the ultimate sacrifice. The memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice will remain forever. May God bless you, your family and brother/sister Troopers.

I went to highschool with Shawn and was in HOSA with him. I became very good friends with his sister Natile. During the month of May I was speeding to work when Shawn pulled me over. He did his job even though he knew who I was. He wrote me a ticket for speeding. He was very professional about it. My brother also played football with him in Highschool. His death has shaken Jackson County where he was from. We will miss him very much and the North Carolina Highway Patrol has lost a wonderful trooper. May god be with his family during their time of pain.

Trooper Blanton...Even though I did not know you personally, notice of your death saddens me. You did not deserve to be shot and killed on the side of the road. I wish all 1500 of your brothers and sisters could have been there to help you, because we would have been. God Bless your family...this career is rough...but you knew that...and you died protecting the citizens of North Carolina...doing what you loved...being a Trooper...

Losing a fellow officer is never easy, and it being a fellow trooper makes it hurt just a little bit more on a personal level. My condolences go out to Trooper Blanton's wife, child, and the rest of his family. They also go out to his extended family of the NC Highway Patrol. I'm sure his patrol family will be there for Trooper Blanton's wife and child through this horrible time.
