I was so saddened to hear of Shawn's death. We have never met, but Shawn and I are distant cousins. Shawn's grandfather and my dad (Cecil Blanton) are first cousins. I am also married to a police officer.

My prayers are with the entire Blanton family and with the LEO family Shawn left behind. Please know Shawn's death wasn't in vain. I wish I could do more or say more. God be with everyone.

To family and friends. As a survivor, I know the trails and tribulations of moving on. It will one of the hardest times in your life to move forward. Your Law Enforcement family will always be there for you. And to you Trooper: God Bless you for walking that line for us. We know that it is narrow and blue, but you walked it to keep us all safe. Thank you sir! Heroes may be gone, but never forgotten. You sir are truly a hero in many eyes.

I was at work at the detention center when we heard the news from one of our fellow officers. May I first say that my wife and I are very sorry to the wife and family with deepest sympathy. I am very sorry to my fellow officers from the Highway Patrol that we deal with at Buncombe County on our everyday dealings with our profession. My heart goes out to my brothers and as many of us know, we are all brothers no matter what agency we are with. God speed Trooper Blanton you are a hero!
