It is with utmost sadness that I read of Trooper Blanton Jr.'s murder. To have a life taken for naught - and to leave behind a small child that will never personally know his brave father makes me cherish the time I have with my small children that much more.
My most sincere condolances to all family, friends and co-members of this hero.
May the Lord guide you all through this tragic time.

To everyone reading this reflection who did not know this MAN as I did not go on channel 13 Asheville N.C. and view the fottage of reflections from this young man's coaches, teachers, and fellow Troopers. He was not just an outstanding Trooper but also an oustanding person, friend, father, and husband. To the family, Iknow you are very proud of him and rightly so. I am proud to share the title of TROOPER with him. Thank GOD for Trooper Shawn Blanton. My thoughts and prayers will be with his wife, son, fellow officers & troopers, and his Cherokee Tribe family. He was a true American Hero.

My condolences go out to Trooper Blanton's family and friends during this trying time. I will be praying espically for his wife and young son. Please friends keep all LEO'S in your prayers, but espically for the troopers who patrol I-40 in Haywood County, because four of the last five troopers killed in the line of duty from Troop G have been killed in Haywood County, and the other Trooper Coggins was killed in Madison County only 20 miles from the Haywood Line, so Trooper Blanton please send my regards in Heaven to your brothers Troopers Harmon, Coggins, Taylor, and Cogdill until we meet again.

I did not know Trooper Blanton very well, but I have worked with him several times including the evening before this tragedy. As everyone else has said, he always had a smile on his face and good humor. I will never forget him and will pray for his wife and precious son. Trooper Blanton, you WILL live on forever in our hearts.

I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity,

Recorded here at this hallowed place.
Alas, my name, no more my face.

"In the line of duty", I hear them say:
My family now the price to pay.

My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.

The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.

My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this thought in mind.

I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee,

I ask for all here from the past:
Dear God, let my name be the last.
