A Part Of America Died

Somebody killed a policeman today
And a part of America died...
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today...
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call... of himself gave his all,
And a part of America died...

My heart breaks to know what your family is suffering right now. With so much life ahead of you, so many experiences left untried, to be taken so suddenly and senselessly. Condolences don't seem like enough to express the grief I feel for your family at this time. Know that you are never alone in this. There are many of us throughout the country who stand with you!

To Mrs. Blanton and baby Tye;

I lost my law enforcement husband at age 41 to a heart attack (on the job). He remained in a coma for 33 months and then had another heart attack and died 12-27-2007. We have a 16 year old daughter. As a former As a former N.C. State Magistrate and Probation/Parole Officer I had the opportunity to know many Troopers, their wives and families and the great fortune to fall in love with the most wonderful one in the world, besides yours, of course. My heart and prayers will be with you and Tye for a long time. Tye will keep you going as our daughter has me. The only words of comfort I have are that you married a fine man who loved you and that he is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Your "circle" is not broken. You just have another angel watching over you and Tye. Know that many, many law enforcement persons want to help you and that prayers will continue to go up for you and Tye. This is the greates gift of all. The NC Troopers are the best family in the US. They will be there for you as long as it takes. Let them help you. God is always with you.

I AM A WARRIOR
by Jon F. Hooper

I stand with God. I fight not for glory or fame,
for they are momentary.
I fight for those who can't.
I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets.
For I serve to protect the innocent.
It matters not where or when,
For evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny,
I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon.
Faith is my shield.
Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing,
For it was my Honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow,
but tears of joy,
for now,
I stand with God.

See you in Heaven Trooper Blanton.

My heart goes out to family, friends and all members of the North Carolina community. I never had the honor of knowing Trooper Blanton. The five years I was assigned to Western NC I developed a true respect for the passion and professionalism exhibited by all LE agencies, especially NC Highway patrol. You will always be honored through memories and never forgotten! Thank you and God Bless.
