Reflections for Trooper David Shawn Blanton, Jr.
I live on the road that Wong was apprehended on. When I found out what happened, I did not believe it. What a senseless act! For what purpose did this serve? My husband is also an LEO and is attending Trooper Blanton's funeral right now. We have a little baby at home. What would I do if my son lost his daddy?
People look at cops and think, they are just cops. But they have lives too. I pray every day that Baby Tye makes it. Perhaps he will grow up to be a warrior just like his daddy.
If there is a heaven Trooper Blanton, may God grant you the best seat up there.

May God bless and comfort the family of Trooper Blanton during this time, and richly bless in the days ahead. As a fellow brother, it is heartbreaking to hear of such news, however, it is a very necessary job, although it can be dangerous. I am reminded of several scriptures that bring me great comfort..."Blessed are the peacemakers, for they are the children of God." and "In the world, ye shall have trouble, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world". God bless.

Shawn was such a good kid growing up and he was loved by many family and friends. He will be missed so much. Prayers go out to his family and fellow troopers and for his wife to have the strength she needs to help with the improvement of their newborn baby boy. God Bless!

The smile was unmistakable.
The friendship was irreplaceable.
The time together was too short but forever cherished.
You touched our hearts, our lives, our very soul.
When I see you in my mind I cry and then I smile...
I am lucky I knew you and we could laugh together.

I am the manager of a local convenience store in which the NC troopers frequent. Shawn was one of those brave men. I seen Shawn about 9:15 Tuesday night when he came into my station and bought a bottle of water. We joked and kidded like we always did and as we do with the other area troopers. His face, his smile, his dimples, and his eyes could light up the blackest room. He seemed to know what to say to makes things right again. When he was ready to leave I called out to him and said "Shawn, please be very careful out there, okay?" He looked at me with that smile and those bright eyes and said ALWAYS. WE WILL MISS YOU AT SUNOCO SHAWN! Our prayers are with all of his family and we will pray for his little son as he fights for his life. To his wife, if you need ANYTHING at all, you can call the station or come by and see us. You're our family as well!

Trooper Blanton, thank you for your service to our country and to the State of North Carolina. Your memory will never be forgotten. To your wife and child. Stay strong and cherish his memory forever. God will help you through this troubled time, as will every member of the Law Enforcement community.
To the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, stay strong and keep up the fight. I have lost partners and I know how rough it makes the job. Go on patrol tonight for Trooper Blanton.

Do not stand
at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds
that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight
on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awake in the
morning's hush
I am the soft uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star that
shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there.
I did not die.

Shawn was a wonderful friend! He was a wonderful person, always smiling, always laughing and always cracking jokes! We grew up together and I'm so thankful we were able to keep in touch. Anytime you could just run into him and within seconds he would have you rolling on the floor with laughter. He is going to be missed by so many people, we will hold him close to our hearts forever.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Trooper Blanton and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Trooper Blanton has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.
To the family, friends, and colleagues of Trooper Blanton, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Trooper Blanton is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.
