I watched my husband put his uniform on this morning, his badge still covered with his mourning stripe, the lost, sad look in his eyes. He doesn't say much but I know his heart is heavy with grief over this awful, horrible event. It still seems so unreal.
Please know you will always be in our hearts and prayers. We will be there for Michaela and Tye as he grows up. Friends will make sure he knows what a hero and special person his dad was, and how much you loved him.
Please watch over Jeff and the rest of the G-5 boys as they are out there protecting the highways as you did on that fateful night June 17, 2008.
You are a hero Shawn a true hero!
God Speed, my friend, god speed.

I never had the pleasure of meeting this impressive young man as I journeyed through life, but his death has touched me deeply. By all accounts he was a young man who followed the rules, and was living life to the fullest. Hopefully I can raise my son to be half the man Trooper Blanton had become. I pray for the family, and especially his son. Michaela, know that there are many out here praying for your family, and wanting to do more for you. I know it will be hard, but continue to search for the purpose in all this. You got to experience a love and a life with Shawn that some never experience in their life. God Bless You!

Trooper Blanton,
I am very proud to have had you as a brother in law enforcement. Thank you for your sacrifice you have made serving for the people of NC. May God always watch over your family and keep them safe. Your son will always have a father to be proud of for years to come. Your family will always be in my prayers. May God also comfort the men and women that you worked with. I do understand losing a brother in our troop. My sergeant was killed earlier this year.
Rest in Peace "HERO".

I was deeply saddened upon hearing the news of Officer Blanton's death. I watched all the news video's i could find about him. He truely seemed to be a remarkable young man,officer and friend to all. As the wife of a LE Officer for nearly 30 years and the mother of a deputy just 2 years older than Officer Blanton and myslef being a 911 supervisor/dispatcher i live with the fear daily of losing my loved ones when they are out in the community protecting us. I will be praying for Officer Blanton's loved ones and for all LE Officers....

When I used to travel I-95 from Ft Stewart, Georgia to Greenville to visit from family while on military leave, I used to always get stopped by the NCHP State Troopers. It used to amazed me because whenever I got stopped my heart would start throbbing and I would get so nervous. Only would I calm down is when the Trooper would walk up to my window and explain the seriousness about speeding, but I was always running late. The North Carolina Highway Patrol Troopers was always courteous. Now when I see a NC State Trooper I have so much respect for them and I am so sorry to hear about Trooper Blanton that I had to slow down and let his family know that they are in my thoughts and prayers. And I would also like to say thank you for the deputies and officers that responded to his aid. I am now in law enforcement and understand how it feels to lose one of your family members in blue, black and gray. May God bless you and your family.

Godspeed Brother
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Matthew 5:9
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and loving kindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
