Deputy Diaz, Once again we have a heavy heart in the County of Yolo. You and others like you that have been tragically taken from us and your families in the line of duty will not be forgotten. Though we have only passed in the Court hallway it does not ease this heavy heart of a fallen brother. Our prayers for out to you and your family. Rest in peace and God speed.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Diaz and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Deputy Diaz has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.
To the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Diaz, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Diaz is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.

I had the privilege of attending the Yuba College Police Academy for a year with Tony. We attended in the evenings while working full-time jobs. Tony never wavered and was eager to learn what he could about law enforcement. He was proud of his family and even more proud the day he graduated. Tony was always next to me, in formation, during Physical Training and push-ups. He walked down the stairs in front of me and sat beside me during our graduation day. He became an exceptional officer but was always an exceptional person. He will be missed dearly.
Respectfully and with a heavy heart; -Wendy Green

I had the pleasure of knowing Tony as a friend and a co-worker. I was working as a training manager and in dire need of computer assistance. Tony was working at the time for Yolo County as an I.T. person and I quickly became friends with him, as he told me of his desire to become a Deputy Sheriff with our department. I communicated with him frequently and he went on ride-alongs as he continued to work on getting his POST certificate and get through the hiring process. I also had the pleasure of working with him as he was hired and became a bailiff (the normal starting position). After passing his FTO program, I was able to work as his direct supervisor on patrol until I had to go out with a bad back. I have continued to be his friend and spoke to him on Friday the 13th. It was only for 55 seconds and I wish we both had more time that day to catch up on things. I miss him and hope that the justice system is swift and we are able to move beyond this tragedy. We played poker together, shared MP3 music and spoke about our family and work lives, frequently. I will always have special memories of Tony and with this had never happened.

I was very saddened to hear of the death of Officer Diaz. Even though I did not know him, but met him very briefly a couple of times, my heart hurt for him and his family. All my prayers are with Officer Diaz' friends and family and hope that they will be comforted by the outpouring of affection for Officer Diaz. Condolances to the family and to the Sheriff's Department.
