Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jose Antonio "Tony" Diaz

Although I have never met Tony, I am very close to one of his co-workers. I am deeply saddened to hear about this tragic incident. I see how he has made such a strong impact on people around him, in both his professional and personal life. You will be missed by many. Rest well as we will take over the watch.

Tony...

Thank you for your courage and bravery. I will miss you brother. You were truly a great example of a 'peace officer'. Thank you for always having my back at all my car stops out of the city limits. R.I.P. 'Tony'. Vanessa and I will pray for you and your family.

Tony I will always remenber our last time we were together in the same car, "We were running after that suspect at W. Lincoln Av. and California St. I was yelling at you to follow me (the wrong way), but you already had the suspect detained in the dentist parking lot. LOL"

You will be missed!!!

May some of these words you read today comfort you in this time of sorrow. Your son, Tony Diaz, a father of three gave the ultimate sacrifice. He fell in the line of duty. He died standing up, standing his ground and did his job until his last breath. Deputy Diaz was a true law enforcement warrior and should be remembered a hero. With much love and respect to him and his loved ones. May god bless you all.

I went to Dixon High School with Tony. I stopped seeing him for years. When I was watching the news and heard this tragedy, I was stunned, then memories came back, and clearly remembered his beautiful smile. My whole body reacted with chills and and was horrified by the way Tony's life was taken away. He was so friendly and was always so happy. Mis sinceros pesames a su familia y sobre todo a su mama. Desafortunadamente, las mejores personas se las lleva Dios, y Tony es, y siempre sera un Angel de Dios. I still see his smile when I think about him back in high school. Rest in peace amigo.

I was nieghbors with Tony and the Diaz Family as a child and teenager. In memory of Tony and in all respect to the Diaz Family: Tony Thank you for the Great memories. Thank you for keeping our Little fires lit while we sat around them as kids listening to Oldies and our elders tell their back in our day stories. Thanks for Helping collect nuts to get me and your sister money to go to the little local dances you weren't even aloud to go to. Just like you to help without expecting anything back. Thanks for the rides to school when we missed the bus.. See people This is the Tony I knew. A small town Boy who respected everyone who he came in contact with as a kid and as an adult still serving this small community with pride. I love you Tony and will never forget you or your family. Tony

I will always remember the day we had our background and psych test’s and then the day we swore in and had our badges pinned on together. Yours 140 and mine 142. That was a proud moment for both of us as we reflected on how we had worked hard and put ourselves thru the academy. Your life was cut short and I’ll miss you and our talks.

"People sleep peacfully in their beds because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf"-George Orwell

Deputy Diaz was the embodiment of a Law enforcement professional. Trained, proficient, tactically sound and above all - a good man.

He died doing what he loved. He died protecting those he loved - family, friends, co-workers, community, country.

He will be honored here and in the hearts of those he touched always.

Be at peace, brother. We will never be able to take your place, but we will take the watch.
