Everett I cant help but to kick myself in the butt for never attempting to make it to Carthage to have lunch with you so we could catch up on old times. I couldnt help thinking of you and laughing today on my way to your funeral. You tried giving me directions on how to get to Carthage to come see you and us have lunch and I kept telling you that you were just giving me directions on how to get lost because I had never been to Carthage before.. Well as you already know and seen for yourself from up above I did manage to get lost today trying to find the church.. I just know you were up in heaven standing by your dad calling me a goofball and laughing. You will always be remembered and truly missed like crazy. Hope your having fun up there with your dad and I know I will see you again one day and then we can sit down and catch up and eat lunch like we were suppose to.. Love ya lots hun..

Everett,
We just got back home from laying you to rest. It was a beautiful service. I hope you took a break from fishing with your dad to see it. There were so many police officers, deputies, fire fighters, detention officers and dispatchers. In your short time here on earth, you touched so many lives. I just wished that I would have ridden out with you, I keep meaning to, just never made it. It was comforting to talk to your partners and your Chief, to hear the stories that only us officers understand. You were a character, you always were though. We love you and miss you. Keep watch over us and enjoy the time with your dad, you deserve it.

Everett I'll miss you very much. You were always so cheerful. I remember the first day you stepped inside Harrison County Jail. We were pretty much inseparable until you fully trained. It's so hard to beleive you are gone. I had just seen you this time last year at CiCi's Pizza in Marshall. We had such a good time talking. You went in the arcade to play video games and when you were ready to go you gave me $5.00 in tokens and told me to let my nephew play some games. We promised we would keep in touch on a regular basis, but now that time has gone. Everett, I'll never forget you. You was such a good friend. Rest In Peace: Job Well Done Unit 118.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

I never had the privilege of meeting you in person but I used to talk to you alot when you were still dispatching for Harrison County. I have alot of friends at Carthage PD who worked with you and and my former co-workers and friends at Panola County who were your partners also. I care tremendously for all of them. They were touched by your presence in their lives and I'm sure I would've been too had I know you. I have been praying for your family and for all of your friends who are my friends too. I hope the Lord can bring peace to all those who loved you and may you keep an eternal watch on all your brothers and sisters in blue. God Bless your soul.
