With a tragic event like what occurred on June 1st we in uniform tend to question our mortality. Whether it is a little tighter hug, a little longer kiss, or an extra “I love you”, as we walk out the door. We will continue on!
Officer Erik Hite I am honored to have met you, you can now rest in peace knowing your Brothers and Sister in law enforcement will continue to fight the fight and carry on your mission to protect and serve.
On June 2nd a piece of all of us died with you, but you also continue to live in all of us. You will be missed by many.
Rest now my brother, you will not be forgotten!

Thank you office Hite. I didn't know you, but you gave your life to save us. We were behind one of the wounded officers at Ina and Oracle that horrible day. To see you all act as quickly and bravely as you did, i am in awe and forever grateful. We watched the officer who was shot in the shoulder just keep on driving. I have NEVER seen such bravery. Thank you all for protecting us. My heart goes out to all of you! Thank you! Please be safe! A thankful grateful citizen. Stephanie Carpenter

I wanted all week to go pay my respects, not only because we both retired from the military but also because I have a brother in Indiana that was shot in the line of duty. He lived but unfortunately his partner did not. I remember the fear and anguish I felt and my heart goes out to the family, friends, officers that served with Officer Hite and everyone else that has gone thru such an ordeal. My brother and I both had just come back from a tour in Iraq where not a year later he was wounded. May God's healing powers be extended to Erik's family and others that grieve such pain.

Officer Hite, God speed. You made the ultimate sacrifice to our community. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and your TPD family during this very sad time.
They walk a beat of concrete and stone,
They drive through the city in a car, alone.
They swallow their pride, their prejudice, their grief,
They deal with all kinds, from preacher to theif.
Sometimes they get weary, from fighting this fight,
To punish the wrong and defend the right.
Defending a sacred creed and code,
Of freedom and justice, they bear the full load.
You don't ever see them for what's deep inside,
The pain, the anger, or many tears they've cried.
For you, for me, and others in fear,
Seldom a "Thank You", do they ever hear.
If you could look at their heart, just once,
You would see,
Their own life is the gift given to you and me.

Erik Hite,
You legacy lives on, your courage and honor will keep us going strong. We will keep on fighting and continue the brave work you loved. You will always live in our hearts, where heroes never die. It takes a very special person to be a police officer. All you have done, along with all the other officers all over the world will never be forgotten and will always be appreciated. Respect and Love to you all!!
Erik's Family,
There are no words to say that can heal your sorrow. I hope you can find some comfort in the support of all of us. Erik did great things while he was with us and will continue in heaven. The most important thing is to not focus on how he left, but how long and beautiful the time was that he shared with you. Best wishes to you always!!

Prayer to St. Michael the Patron Saint of Police Officers
Dear St. Michael, your name means, "Who is like God?" and it indicates that you remained faithful when others rebelled against God. Help police officers in our day who strive to stem the rebellion and evil that are rampant on all sides. Keep them faithful to their God as well as to their country and their fellow human beings. Amen.
