I never had the opportunity to work with Michael during any joint operations between our two Agencies however, I did work with his brother Robert. Having worked in the Alamogordo area for over 7 years, the Border Patrol maintained a strong working relationship with the New Mexico State Police and Lt. Avilucea will be greatly missed. Our condolences go out to the entire New Mexico State Police family and the Avilucea family. Rob, you were always a very fair person while assigned as my supervisor at HIDTA and I'm so very sorry for your loss. If you ever need anything please do not hesitate to ask!

We were the same whether we wore black or blue...you held the thin blue line and remember that "heroes live forever" my brother!I saw your procession coming back to Las Cruces on Saturday and it gave me goose gumps...LCPD and NMSP working together to get you back home was awesome. Rest in Peace and you will not be forgotten. Paz y amor!

I remember the first time I met you LT. You were a Sergeant at the time. You called me to the end of the hall during recruit school and had me do push ups to recieve a picture of then Assistant Chief Payne to hang in my room due to the close family ties I had with him. I was then privileged to ride with you and learn patrol radar operations. It was also a great honor to work with you on other operations and roadblocks. You will be missed my brother. God Speed and keep that watchful LT eye on all of us down here.
