God bless Sgt Liczbinski and his family!

I would like to say my prays go out to Sgt. Stephen Lizczbinski, and his family. I did not know Stephen personally, but Sgt. Stephen really sounded like a great guy who wanted to do nothing but protect his community and serve his country. He made the ultimate sacrifice and I know he will be remebered forever. Currently I am a graduating criminal justice student that was thinking about applying to the Philadelphia Police Department, but I just think its so sad that so many officers are losing their lives.

By William Butler Yeats
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a-glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear the water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.

i was the newest one in the district when you passed. I remember i was at my brothers party when i got the phone call. I went home, put on my uniform and headed down 95 to help out on my day off. When i got there, we had no more radios left so they wouldnt let me go out on the street. So i grabbed a case of beer out of my trunk and gave it to the officers in your squad who had searched all day for your killer.
I didnt know you that well, in fact my only memory of you is backing you up on an assist as soon as I arrived at work one night. I watched over your house many nights after you left this world, and we proudly came in 2nd place at your 1st annual memorial softball tournament!
But what I am most proud of srg., is when one annonymous port richmond citizen called 911 at 7am one sunday morning.
Radio dropped me down what i had thought to be just another illegal parker. Then i read the location as i opened my eyes from a previous power nap. Almond and Schiller with Maryland tags...
I drove faster to this parker then any other in my 6 months on the street. When i arrived i noticed the silver impala blocking your memorial flowers from the spot where you took your last breaths..where your reminded us to tell your wife and kids that you loved them..
I dont know what felt better..
The fact that someone called the police to report this ignorant maryland driver of what he had just done..
or the fact that in the remarks of the 40 doller parking ticket i got to write..
NO PARKING, SIGNS PROPERLY POSTED, SGT LICZBINSKI'S SPOT!!!
rest in peace with your brother sgt. simpson

I was profoundly moved by Sergeant Liczbinski's tragic story. What touched me most was the account of his final expression of love for his wife and children.
I am deeply humbled by his, and numerous others, willingness to selflessly sacrifice their lives for others. I am equally humbled by the sacrifice that Sergeant Liczbinski's family has made in losing their husband and father, and I express my most sincere condolences to them.
I am confident that the most important thing in Sergeant Liczbinski's life was his family. May all of us in Law Enforecement who read his story and remember his incredible sacrifice take a moment to pray for the safety of Law Enforcement Officers everywhere. And may we all strive, as Segeant Liczbinski did, to make our families our first priority.

My respect goes out to you, Sergeant Liczbinski; My condolences to your family.
In Chicago, patrol officers usually ride in pairs- depending on the district and watch. I have a profound respect for supervisors and lone patrol officers both here and across the country that selflessly head to calls while awaiting back-up.
To the Philadelphia Police Department, I’m sorry to hear of Sgt. Liczbinski’s death as a result Sgt. Simpson’s loss. I wish strength for all familys: Liczbinski, Simpson, and PPD.

I do not know officer Liczbinski or his family but I understand his sacrifice....I lost my brother in law Robert Tanner in jan. 2002....he was also gunned down in the line of duty. In jan. of this yaer I will attempt a climb of aconcagua, argentina with the group cops on top...I am honored and proud to be a part of this expedition to be carried out in the name of officer Liczbinski. Regardless if our team reaches the summit, the simple fact that we are there in in itself is a great success...and proof to the fact that we will never forget and this officers family and freinds are not alone....steve janke/team aconcagua 2009

To the family and friends of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski and the members of the Philadelphia Police Dept.
On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered when Sgt. Liczbinski was tragically killed. I know that your department must be deeply affected by the loss of two dedicated officers within a span of five months.
To Stephen's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous.
When the killers of each fallen officer murders our loved ones, it has a devastating impact on all who loved and cared for them. I pray for your solace. Heaven may have another hero, but how I wish it wasn't so. In reading the loving and admiring reflections, I can see that Stephen was an amazing man.

Steve,
God had to need a "Go to guy" when he called you home on that fateful day in May. You were truly a "Go to guy" whenever anyone of us at South Detectives needed something. You are missed, you made the ultimate sacrifice and that will never be forgotten. God Bless you and your family.

To those who loved Sergeant Liczbinski, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. It's been a long hard road, and even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Stephen will always be a part of yours.
It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Sergeant Liczbinski for helping to make this world a better place. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. I know this isn't a very manly thing to do, but if you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. Dennis was a good man and we miss him more than words can say.
Wishing those who loved you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne

As I read the heartbreaking story about your last words
being to tell your wife and kids you would miss them, my
heart broke. While it will in time bring great comfort to
them it is initially so sad to know that you were taken
from all you love by people who do not value life or love.
I read further and a thought occurred to me when I read that
while other officers pursued the robbers, they reacted to
attempt to kill yet more officers but that thank god did
not happen because their gun jammed. I wouldn't be at all
surprised to learn that you jammed that gun and protected
fellow officers. I guess we will never know until we get
the chance to talk with you at St. Michael's. But I do
fully expect you to smile at me, nod and say "Yep that was
me". Rest easy officer. You take care of your brothers and
sisters in blue and your brothers and sister will look
out for your family.
Rest in Peace

"My Brother"
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.
He was a cop.
Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.
Rest easy Brother Liczbinski, we have the watch...
”I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
---Isaiah 6:8
You answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice. Rest easy in God's kingdom and watch over us as we continue the battle here on earth!!!
