I will never think about Texas Highway Patrol officers the same. They have my upmost respect and admiration for performing the duties of their profession . To have this young life taken from his family in the senseless manner it was , is indeed a great tragedy,
HOWEVER, we will all know all the answers someday. Not God's Will that his family should suffer, but he knows all and has a plan for us all in the future. God Bless the Family.

To your family and friends, my prayers are with you during this hard time, I too lost a brother last year in Texas in results of gunfire. He had 2 young children and a stepson and wife and parents and 3 sisters, it has been a very hard year for us. May your love hold strong, it takes a long time to heal when something terrible like this happens to the ones we love. I am so sorry for your loss. He is watching over you every day and still doing what he did when you lost him protecting us all. God be with you,

Trooper Burns was a hero to those of us in East Texas and his presence will be sorely missed. Even though I only met him a few times, I could tell he was dedicated - to his job and to his family. I grieve for the brutal way he was taken from this earth and I wait anxiously to hear that his killer has been caught.

My heart and prayers go out to you. I pray that God will in time give you the peace you so deserve. His calling is far a much higher purpose. Although I did not know James personally he was a brother in blue and I'm sure he loved being a trooper. May God hold him in his hands until one day you all be be reunited as one. I leave you with a beautiful description of dying by Henry van Dyke: I AM STANDING AT THE SEASHORE. A SHIP AT MY SIDE SPREADS HER WHITE SAILS TO THE MORNING BREEZE AND STARTS FOR THE BLUE OCEAN. I STAND AND WATCH HER UNTIL AT LENGHT, SHE HANGS LIKE A SPECK OF WHITE CLOUD, JUST WHERE THE SEA AND SKY COME TO MINGLE WITH EACH OTHER...AND JUST AT THE MOMENT WHEN SOMEONE AT MY SIDE SAYS, "THERE,SHE IS GONE! THERE ARE OTHER EYES WATCHING HER COMING, AND OTHER VOICES READY TO TAKE UP THE GLAD SHOUT, "HERE SHE COMES!

Dear Family,
Words, however kind, cannot mend your heartache; but those who care and share your loss wish you comfort and peace of mind. May you find strength in the love of family and in the warm embrace of friends.

Law Enforcement is a calling. Most people don't really understand it, and even our families wonder about the way we live our lives.
It takes someone who is different. Someone who will stand a watch, patrol the community, walk the yard, and be willing to sacrifice everything for others they may never meet.
Because of Scott (and so many others like him) we all get to rest at night, knowing that if the wolf comes to our door someone will come to protect us.
Thank you for your honorable service, your sacrifice, and your willingness to stand on the side of what is right and good.

It was only two weeks ago that I met you at your parents business. Talking with you while you held that cute little baby girl keeps going through my mind. That picture will replay in my mind everytime I go up to Linden for hunting and the mandatory stop for deer corn and to chat with your folks.
