Scott,
My heart grieves for you and your family. I cannot verbalize the tremendous pain I felt upon hearing of your tragic death, your ultimate sacrifice for the protection of others. In your classic way and with your shy smile, you have touched the hearts and lives of many people over the years, and I thank you for that. I am thankful I knew you for so long, and was able to call you my friend.

I pray that Micah grows up knowing what an amazing father she had. With the love and support of all your TDCJ and DPS friends, hopefully she will never doubt that. I also pray that God will get Michaela and your family through this difficult time, and give them the strength and peace to focus on the many wonderful memories they had with you for the short time you were with us.

I thank you for your years of service to the people of Texas. I will keep memories of you in my heart forever--you will never be forgotten.

To Mrs. Burns and child: As you can see by all of the thoughts and prayers your husband and father is not gone. He will be with each and every one of us until the end of our time. I know he will join the army of others who are and continue to be our backup everytime we put on the uniform. Your husband, Your father, is and will continue to be a hero for eternity. We are all very saddened about the loss of Trooper Burns, My son was murdered 9 years ago while he was doing his job of repossessing a vehicle, it is such a tragic loss to lose a family member from violence or any other means, my heart goes out to his wife, and mother and dad and his family. May God bless them and hold them close to ease them through the grieving period. Our prayers are with his family and all that loved him.

Brother Burns, even though we never met you are and will always be my brother. You will never be forgotten. You are a hero and we all thank you for your duties as a Police Officer.
