Great-grandpa Robertson,
Thank God for technology that we are now able to pass messages to our family and so many. It helps young people, such as myself, know more about our families past history. I’ve always heard the stories about valor and courage from my grandparents and my mother, LaDonna (Robertson) Byrd-Hicks. I am proud to know your history. It’s horrible that you were shot by the town idiot (I hope he never had offspring), but thankfully justice was properly served. My Grandpa Jack (aka Sammy Jr., David S. Robertson Jr.) would tell me about you. I believe you would be proud to know that service continued in our blood as Grandpa Jack went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corp. during WWII and his Son David S. Robertson III served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. I, also, served in the U.S. Army during the War in Iraq, and in the Florida Army National Guard. I have a son, Archie, that I will try to encourage to serve when he is ready. Thank you for inspiring us so much.

Constable Robertson, tomorrow marks the 87th anniversary of your murder. It's apparent that your family not only has kept you in their hearts, but that they are better people because of you, even though they never met you.
It is clear you were a good and honorable man and a true hero.
God Bless and Rest in Peace, Brother.

Grandpa Robertson - My dad, David Samuel, Jr., was only 7 years old when you were killed; he was the youngest of Fleta Mae's five children. He told me of your heroism and was very proud to be your son. Your strength and courage still runs strong in the Robertson line. Love you.

To my awesome Uncle Sam - wish I could have known you. I grew up on stories of your heroism and big heartedness, taking in stepchildren to raise as well as your own. You loved your job and felt you were making a difference in cleaning up a wild and wooly area during the OK oil boom. Much Love, Daughter of your sister Flora.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 85th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Your granddaughter left such a beautiful tribute to you and taught us all what a man of character and integrity and wonderfu parent you were.
Rest In Peace

Your youngest son, John spoke proudly of you all the days of his life.
You must have been someone quite special Sam as all of your sons and daughters (Dee, Ode, Sam, Vera, Vonna, Norma Jean, John (my dad), and Iris, told stories of your big heart, your grit & your character. Teenagers to toddlers at the time of your death they missed you greatly but you left your legacy behind in each of them. Every one - big hearts, true grit and incredible strength of character. They were all proud that you were their Dad.
Proud to have known you - through them.
Your Grandaughter,
