Jarod,
Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. I was recently reminded of your passing when I found a message I had received from your grandmother about the tragic news. I have also learned that you are not the only family member who is memorialized on these pages. Our cousin through common ancestry Patrolman Robert Flenner of the Waynesboro, Pennsylvania Police Department lost his life in the line of duty in 1908. Although I did not personally know either of you, these pages have help connect me with you

Jarod, another Christmas is almost here. Another holiday to endure without you. People say that time heals all wounds, but one never "gets over" losing a child. I read somewhere that there is a word for losing a spouse: widow/widower; there is a word for losing parents: orphan; but there is no word for losing a child. That makes sense to me...there is no word OR adequate description of this loss.
I don't say this to diminish the loss of a spouse or a parent!!! By no means. I've lost both. But something actually dies within the heart of a parent when a child passes on.
I love you and thank you for being my son.

Today, September 6, 2011, my son Jarod would have turned 32 years old.
I will never forget bringing him home from the hospital as a newborn, and thinking he was the most beautiful child I had ever seen!
I will never forget what a great dad, husband, son, grandson, brother, cousin and friend he was to those he loved.
I will never forget his face when his daughter Angela was born.
I will never forget that he gave his life for his country.
I will never forget.

Jarod,
I will be setting out tomorrow morning to participate in Police Unity Tour 2009. I will be riding in your honor this year on the 300 mile bike ride from NJ to DC. I have learned quite a bit about you from your family and reading reflections here. You were obviously one great guy and I am very proud to be riding in your honor. Sorry you had to go Jarod.
