Sheriff John McHargue, the correct spelling of his name, was my second great grandfather. The leader of the mob was McHargue's brother-in-law, Campbell Williams. The older brother confessed to the murder and stated his brother had nothing to do with the crime and asked that he be spared. Both brother were hung with telephone line.
