Your heroism and service is honored today, the first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
To Ericka, his children Chandler and Sydni, parents Barbara and Wayne, and his other loved ones: I share your anquish in losing a beloved family member which I believe is life's greatest sorrow. Time never diminishes love. You are in my heart's embrace today. May God grant you solace.
Rest In Peace, Derek.

To the entire Owens Family:
You all have been on my mind lately, and it was important to me to leave this reflection to let you know that you are in my prayers. I know that life has been very challenging without Officer Owens' physical prescence, but please continue to lean on the Lord, and each other.
Ericka, you are such a strong woman. I pray that your walk with the Lord continue to keep you strong and prayerful. Your family is in the hearts of many people.
Never Forgotten.

To the family and friends of Officer Owens:
It's hard to believe that it is coming up on a year soon, since our beloved CPD officer went home to be with the Lord. It seems like it was just yesterday that this all happened. I just wanted to take the time out to let the Owens family know that you all are loved by so many people. Officer Owens touched so many people in his lifetime, and I pray that you all are continually being comforted by the support and prayers of those who care so much about your family.
I have lived in Cleveland all of my life, and my heart just broke when he passed away, but I am certain that the Lord has been keeping his wife, children, parents and friends.
May the Owens family never lose hope, joy and love as you continue to walk this life day by day. The City of Cleveland will Never Forget about the Owens family. We are here for you Ericka, and we Love you!
God bless you!

May the Owens Family know they are in our thoughts and prayers. I had the distinct privilege of meeting Derek's wife, Ericka as well as Darek's parents at the fund raiser at Local Hero's held in early December. It was great to see so many people turn out to honor Derek and his family. I will be doing the Police Unity Tour in May 2009 in honor of Derek and hope to meet the family again at the Memorial Service on May 13th. Until then, may the love of family and support of friends continue to make you stronger each and every day.

Well, a guilty verdict was finally reached, and I PRAY that this will bring some closure for the family of Officer Owens. You have certainly been through a great deal, and I know that the Lord will keep you.
Ericka, May God give you everything that you NEED to continue to raise your two children. You were blessed with a good man, and now you have WONDERFUL memories of him to hold dear to your heart.
The pain may never leave you, but you will be able to cope with it, and with each new day the burden will be a little lighter. God bless you all!!!

To the family and friends of Officer Derek Owens and the members of the Cleveland Police Department, and most especially to Derek:
On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Derek was tragically killed.
To Officer Owens' family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Derek gave to his community and the citizens of Ohio, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 1, 2008
