GOD Bless Mr.Owens! My family and I would like to send our deepest condelence's to his friend's and family.
March 7, 2008
I know there is nothing I could say that could really help, but I do want to sent my prayers to you and everyone who is hurt by this tragedy. A friend of mine who was an Alliance police officer died on duty a 13 years ago, and to this day, I still feel the pain. I ask the Good Lord to please help the pain to lessen up and that his children realize what an incredible person their "dad" was. God Bless You.

Just wanted to write a few words for Officer Owens' family and friends...
Our hearts are with you, as are our prayers. You are not alone now, nor will you ever be, and Derek will be remembered!!
To Officer Owens' family... Be strong, and be strong together. There's nothing you can't face if you just hold on to each other. God is watching over you...as is Derek.
God Bless,

Knowing how important a job a police officer does is one thing but knowing the risk he or she takes each day of their lives is another. I can't tell you how badly I feel as this young man with such a young family has departed this earth. What a wonderful Officer he was and what a commitment to his city, others, and his family. My blessing to his family and friends. Bless you. Jeri C.

My father was a homocide detective in Youngstown for 33 years. Prior to the rank of detective, he was in the blue division on the streets of a very dangerous city. I remember the fear I felt everytime he went to work. My heart breaks for this courageous officers' wife, children, family and friends. My prayers are with you all.

I did not know Officer Owens. When I heard of his falling, I was shocked. An officer that cared so much for children and his family was gunned down. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife, children, and fellow officers. This should not happen to men and women who are trying to protect us.

As the wife of a Police Officer I can only imagine the pain felt by Ercia. My prayers are not for Derek, ANGEL'S don't need them. But I pray for Erica and the children, for the long day's and night's that have yet to face. May God Be With You.

My son and I did not know Officer Owens, but my brother is a Police Officer and I know what courage Officer Owens must have had. I admire all Police Officers, they put their own lives at risk just to protect others. They are true angels. Officer Owens gave the ultimate sacrifice and I truly admire him for that. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during their time of sorrow. And to his wife and children, You will never walk alone....

Dear Family (Wife, children, relatives and Police)
I send you my deepest sympathy and my prayers. I am so fed up with the senseless killings in our community. I pray that one day these young men and women will understand that guns hurt more than the person they shoot.
It is time for all us to come together and TRY to figure out how can we make this city a safer place for ALL CITIZENS.
D-Don't worry about me, for I have joined GOD in a better and safer place
E-Each one of you take this event and use it as a reminder that something has to be done to help our youths understand how guns and violence hurt others
R-Remember ME always and the lessons that I have tried to teach you all
E-Embrace all of my family, for they knew this could happen, but it will be hard for them to accept
K-Keep my family in your prayers. They will need it for the future.
Once again, My family and I send our deepest codolences for the family of OFFICER OWENS!!

I was not able to pay my respects in person; however, by the magic of internet TV I was able to watch your brothers and sisters in blue honor your ultimate act of service.
The men and women of the Cleveland Police Department should be proud. All officers around this great country should be proud. Seeing officers travel from cities near and far to honor a fallen hero is an amazing sight. It is indeed a Thin Blue Line between good and evil. But do not fear, we are a STRONG, Thin Blue Line.
Rest now Officer Owens, we will hold that line in your honor. Please look down on all your brothers and sisters in blue and help guide us through our tour of duty. I'll see you in Heaven.

Tears just stream down my face as I read these reflections. I am continuously saddened by the state of our city, country, world. This just confirms how much harder we must work to teach and protect our youth!
God Bless the Owens family. My family will be thinking and praying for all of you!

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
Do not go gentle into that good night
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked not lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay ,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I am very sorry to hear the circumstances of your death. I wish to express my condolences to your family, friends and co-workers. May God hold them close in his arms and offer peace and comfort in this time of great turmoil. May they find the strength to share stories of the good times and smiles you shared with them.
Rest well, warrior, your job on earth is done. Watch over us all from the golden beat above. Your brothers and sisters will walk that thin blue line in your stead. God bless.

My heart goes out to Derek Owens' family and friends. They are in my thoughts and prayers. I am sad that this is the first contact I have had with his family since I was in college with him and his wife at the University of Toledo. I can look back and remember his smile, his dedication to his fraternity brothers and of course, his love for Erika. You will be missed.
