Reflections for Trooper Kara M. Kelly-Borgognone
We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Trooper Kelly-Borgognone and we honor her distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Trooper Kelly-Borgognone has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.
To the family, friends, and colleagues of Trooper Kelly-Borgognone, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with her when she walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that she will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Trooper Kelly-Borgognone is distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for her brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.

As Kara's father there is no prouder moment than to see your daughter grow into the tremendous woman, mother, daughter, and NHP Trooper that she was. Each day with Kara was like no other. She was funny, loving, compassionate and had a zest for life and her career that just lit up our lives.
Kara is so missed by her brothers, sister and mother and I and we were so proud of her and love her dearly. Her loss is like no other. A piece of our hearts has gone.
I cannot even begin to thank all the kind, loving, sharing, caring people who have reached out to us in this tragic time. It is what has helped us and we will never ever forget those people who have been there for us.
The Nevada Highway Patrol and Kara's crew on Graveyard are simply the "Best". Colonel Chris Perry and his staff have been there when we needed them the most and have stepped up and backed us up when we needed them. The loss to NHP and all officers is felt each and every day.
Kara was passionate about her career and always gave law enforcement her best work. Her peers respected her and her abilities and she respected them back. Kara was always there for her crew and when the chips were down they were there for her. That is what this special bond in law enforcement is all about.
Kara was my birthday present 33 years ago. I can't think of a better present for a father. I miss her so much but always have her laugh and love with me. She was my light. She always will be....I love you Kara...always....Dad

Kara, the time that I was able to work with you was way too short. I never told you how much I valued your friendship and your trust in me to go out with you on searches, arrests, and traffic stops. I always took your trust as a compliment, and never took it for granted.
I know that everyone who ever worked with you is better as a result. I will be spending the rest of my career trying to live up to the standard that you have set.
Thank you for everything. For your friendship, for the knowledge and experience you gave, for the sacrifices you made, and for the smiles and encouragement that I always saw coming from you.
I will not ever forget you.

Kara,
I can remember February 2006 like it was yesterday. No criminal was going to keep you from going home to your family….and you did what you had to do. I remember how proud I was and thinking, “I will work with her any day.” You inspire me and I am a better Policeman for having known you. To your last breath you gave selflessly so that others might benefit from the gift of life. You leave an amazing legacy and your memory will never fade.
Until we meet again...

Kara, I ran into you a few times in the breath room at Parr. Right away, you could tell how passionate you are about your mission. Your personality is infectious and could put a smile on my face, if even for a moment on a hard night. Your quality of life is based on the number of people you touched and the memory you leave behind. Your smile will be missed. My prayers for you and your own sister.
