Reflections for Police Officer Thomas Frederick Ballman

I worked with Tom as a Park Ranger in 1999 when he was first hired as a Police Officer for Kirkwood. I went to instructor school with Tom and he was an excellent teacher! God bless and rest in peace my friend!

I just wanted all of you to know I think about you everyday and my heart breaks for you. I wish there was something I could do to ease your pain. You are in my prayers and the tears I still cry for Bill are tears I cry for all of you. You have family and many friends who are there to help you through this. We are here too.

Tom:
Every time I see a police officer I think of you and I think of how they are just doing their job, the way you were. I pray these brave men and women will be safe and I know you are watching over them. God bless you.

Tom,

I still cannot believe what has happened. You are like a dad to me, I still feel the pain I did that night I received the phone call. I now will try to live in your shadow.

God Bless you my brother in Law Enforcement. You're untimely death will not be in vain for we'll continue the fight to protect and serve. Now gear up and grab a beat in Heaven we'll see you soon.

For the past two weeks I have been trying to find the right words to put on here and I think I found them.

You truly had an impact on young people's lives. Every Explorer and former Explorer I know and even more that I don't know came to your memorial and funeral to pay respect to you. Some of us stood at attention at the entrance of the funeral home, others directed traffic for the Sea of Blue procession on Manchester, others stood outside Kirkwood P.D's Headquarters, waiting for the parade of cars to pass; and we all stood in the freezing cold waiting for the small army of police cars to arrive at Kirkwood City Park.

If there is any evidence of how much you had an impact on people's lives, this is a shining example

In one of the stars I shall be living.
In one of them I shall be laughing.
And so it will be, as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night.
The Little Prince Antoine de Saint-Exupery

...always remember there is sweetness in the laughter of all the stars and in the memories of Tom, a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, friend and peace officer!
