Reflections for Police Officer Randal David Simmons
You are a man of great stature. You always lived each day as it were your last. You will leave lasting memories to many people because you've touched individuals like me whom you never met. This world would be a better place if there would be more people like you. Thank you for being you. God Bless you and your family. You are loved~

What a tribute, what an awesome display of unity, support and love our police community, our city officals and the community at large showed for this great man. Who knew their was this fantastic man working on a SWAT Team and doing so much for the community, for the kids, and more. I was so touched by the televised ceremony that I went out to the street (Slauson and Denker Ave.) and waved at every vehicle that passed, from the very first vehicle to the last in the motorcade, for over two hours; the very least I could do. Several police vehicles from all over the state and a few from out of the state hit their siren and waved back at us, showing their appreciation. They seemed to be as overwhelmed with us and we were with them. Several took pictures of us as they passed by.
I can not remember any other public display of affection such as this in all my life, except for the time I remember the bodies of President John F. Kennedy and the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. passing from town to town while being transported back to thier resting places. The people stood along the roadside waving and crying as they paid their last respects to their fallen heros.
Everyone that I spoke with about Officer Simmons was so touched by his passion for his family, his career, the kids and most of all his God. His light was like the shinning beacon of a lighthouse in a foggy storm at sea, showing the way to safety, where protection and comfort abides.
I loved it when his son said, his father's belief was not about religion, but about the way he lived. What a testimony.
Officer Randal Simmons was definitely as angel in disguise, dressed in LAPD Blue. It's sad that we all had to give this angel, this hero his flowers at his death. I'm sure he did receive accolades and honors but, you know what I mean. Why don't we recognize the good in people while they are living? Why do we focus so much on those that display foolishness and disregard?
May God bless the family in a way that only He can; I'm praying for each of you. And for all of you Police Officers out their, stay safe and God be with you.

We did not know Officer Simmons or his family, but watching his funeral on TV today really had an impact on myself and my husband. We are both Christians, and what Officer Simmons did not only for his family, the Police force, LAPD, and the city of Los Angeles, but for all those he touched as an ambassador of Jesus Christ. He certainly showed by his good works his faith in action, and his love for Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I would hope that in my lifetime I would be able to accomplish 25% of what this wonderful Man of God did in his short 50 years.
It was truly a blessing to watch his life celebration on television, and I just thank his family for sharing that, and I am sure there were hundreds, if not thousands who gave their lives to Jesus Christ today because of the life Randy Simmons lived. He lived his faith in full out open ness for all the world to see. He did not hide his light under a bush, but it shown like a beacon for others to see, so they might see his good works and glorify God in Heaven!
The steps of a righteous man are ordered, and while we may not understand why a righteous man was taken since he obviously had such an impact on those whose lives he touched, why God chose to call home such a good and faithful servant doing and living out his God given calling, but we can know that God is still on the throne, and his death did not take God by surprise.
We just pray for his 2 children, Gabrielle, and Matthew, and for his wife, Lisa, and all the rest of his family, in that the peace beyond all understanding will surpass you, and encompass you and sustain you through this difficult time.
Your father, husband, son and brother was an inspiration to many, and your loss is definitely all our losses.
May God richly bless you and keep you, and guide you beside the still water and we have the hope in glory of seeing him again one day, and for those of us who never heard of him until his tragic death, we look forward to meeting him in heaven one day. He is certainly rejoicing with his Saviour right now and enjoying the party welcoming him home. We will one day meet him in Heaven, and I told my husband tonight that I can only hope to hear what I am sure he heard as he entered into those pearly gates from Jesus Christ Himself, "Well done good and faithful servant"!! He certainly was a servant, and faithful, and good.....we should all strive to be like him.
The one thing that can come out of this that is good, as we know that God can take something meant for evil, and turn it to good is that God will use his death to reach those who were lost, unsaved, and unloved, that his death will prove in the days, months, and years to come was a blessing in that through his death, so many came to life!
We are donating a monetary donation to the Glory Kids in his name, that it may be used to further the advancement of his ministry in reaching the inner city youth. It is our priviledge and honor to do this to remember your husband, father, brother, son, and that this in some small way will be a token of our love for you and your family, and also to support what he believed in, and that God will expand his ministry far more than you or he could ever imagine.
We believe this is God's plan, to spread the gospel through Randy's death, and through that, he will never die. We can rejoice now that he is at home with His Lord, and that he was a Christian, and the best gift he ever gave his kids was the love of Jesus Christ, that will be with them forever, and assures them of seeing their father again face to face one day.
We pray for Gabrielle and Matthew that they would continue to carry the torch for their father, to keep up his ministry, and reach out to those that he wanted so desperately help, and to make sure that all you do not only honors your birth father, but your Father in Heaven. Never let your dad down, make him proud in all you do, and support your mother.
Remember this, God is the Father to the fatherless, husband to the husbandless and son to the sonless, brother to the brotherless.
God Bless, and in the Name of the Holy Sprit, may you have comfort and grace abounding, to get you through the difficult days ahead.
Be proud of your father and husband, for he was truly a man among men, and someone I wished I could have known, but I do, through you.
God Bless,

Words cannot express the feelings alot of us are experiencing today. Watching your funeral and listening to the tributes each and everyone said, made me realize that the city of Los Angeles lost an extra ordinary man.

Officer Simmons, thank you for your service. It shall never be forgotten. It is not your death that is to be remembered, but how you lived. You lived your life as a hero. And for that, you will always be remembered. I hope that I can be at least as half as good of a Law Officer as you were.
On behalf of every Badge in this country, thank you for what you have done. Watch over us, guide us all in the direction that God wants us to go. Rest in peace, for we have the watch.

This man is a hero by any standard. A leader, professional, protector and in many cases a savior. His selfless acts dictate the man he was. It is very unfortunate that we lost him but it was not in total vain. Officer Simmons is a bench mark officer that risked his life in the line of duty to protect and serve as stated in his oath. This stand up charactor is a hero and will be remembered for his selfless action. God bless his soul and may he rest in peace.

I remember the last time I ever saw Mr. Simmons. It was the summer of 2005, we were getting ready to move to Rolling Hills Estates and I was out walking our dogs since they were getting restless by the movers. I walked to our old house (around the block from our former house a year earlier) and I ran into Mr. Simmons. I greeted him with a BiG smile and said hello and mentioned we were moving. He smiled and said, "Remember, no wild parties like the one I broke up." I laughed and said I had learned my lesson. We said our goodbyes and I was on my way. I never thought I would never see him again. I would occassionaly return to the old neighborhod to walk my dogs or jog and would wonder how everyone in the neighborhood was doing and of course, Mr. Simmons was one of them since he was the one who called the cops to inform them that there was a party in the middle of the night running. When I found out it was Mr. Simmons, I wasn't mad. In fact, I was thankful that my neighbors were looking out for my best interest. Mr Randy Simmons was an AMAZiNG PERSON! I was honored that I had an HONORABLE SWAT TEAM MEMBER as a neighbor. He was kind to my family and a great friend. I am glad that the last memory I have of RANDY was a laughing memory. It brings a smile to my face...and even though he is no longer on this earth...He is with us in spirit.
My heart goes out to his whole family....
Including the R.P.V. neighborhood.
With Much LOVE RANDY
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE

I have never ever been so moved as I was by this memorial service for one of our own beloved peace officers. WHY is all I ask but that is not for me to say or know until we all meet with our Lord and Savior What a wonderful human being and I only wish we had know him personally. The service was uplifting and remarkable and I could not take my eyes away from the tv and I cluld not leave the TV room The tears came down for the family and with this thought I leave them with my prayers at my altar and my utmost blessings it would be lovely to know more about our officers and not just upon there death.

This poem is for the loved ones of Randy Simmons.
"You can shed tears that he is gone,
or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all he's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him only that he is gone,
or you can cherish he's memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what he'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on."

On behalf of the men and women of the La Habra Police Department and my personal family we send our prayers and condolences to the family of Officer Simmons and the Los Angeles Police Department. It doesn't matter where we work, when one of our brothers or sisters fall we all feel the pain and the loss. I, like many others had the opportunity to watch the funeral service for Officer Simmons on television with my wife. It was an incredible service and when it was concluded we felt like we had known Officer Simmons for years. An Officer of this caliber is rare and will never be replaced. It's men like this that raise the bar for the rest of us to follow. Randy, I'm sorry I never had the chance to meet in person. Rest in peace brother and rest assured you will never be forgotten.

We laid you to rest today brother, you should have seen it. Officers from all over the country, community members, you Glory kids, chiefs - past a present.... Matt would have made you proud, his speech touched so many. The shoes he must fill are big, but I know he will do it.
And my friend, Jimmy was there. He says you are a hero, you saved his life, but knowing you would say you were just doing your job. And for that we are thankful.
My friend, I have never seen anything like I saw today and honestly I pray that none of us ever see this again. But it is our job, and we know the risk is always there.
Thank you for being you, and for allowing so many hear your message. You were the epitomy of a good man. And as the sun sets, I walk away knowing you touched my heart and I will be a better person because you challenge me to be so.
God Bless you Randy. I will miss you. But we WILL meet again. Rest in peace warrior, we will take the baton from here.

Little did the world know about Officer Randy Simmon’s generosity, kindness and humility. His tragic loss was incredibly beyond belief. Magnitude of voices had collectively spoken in unison sending one powerful message. His astounding bravery had transpired deep admiration throughout the nation. My memories of Randy, along with his fellow SWAT officers who came to Orthopaedic Hospital for its annual holiday toy drive were personal experiences definitely worth remembering. Randy, your happy spirit will remain forever in our hearts.

Pastor Randy conducted Glory Kids sessions in Scottsdale Townhome Association with the children in the area. He had a great relationship with my husband, Rube, who also holds Bible study every Wednesday in the area. We had just moved back to the area and Pastor Randy was excited about working with my husband on some joint ministry efforts with the 60 or so youth they mentor. As they talked, my husband said he saw the "glory of God" resting on him. Two weeks later, Pastor Randy went on to glory.
I want to thank Pastor Randy for his tireless commitment to not only Christ, but individuals in the community. I want to thank him for encouraging my husband in the Lord, as they both labored on behalf of Christ to show people a better way. I am humbled and the commitment both he and my husband share to do the will of the Father.
"Father God, help me as a wife to fully understand the call placed on my husband's life. Help me to understand when a child comes knocking at the door at 11pm, to know that you have a work for him to do. Sometimes ministry cannot wait til morning. Kill any selfishness in me, that I may consistently be a helpmate in this journey to save souls. Father, thank you for the person of Pastor Randy. Thank you that he demonstrated Jesus to us all. Let his passing challenge us all to the Truth: that we are here on a mission. We are to be living witnesses to You. That we are to snatch as many souls for the Kingdom as possible. Time is short for us, but you are ever faithful to reward our efforts. Thank you for that reminder. May Pastor Randy's family be covered with your comforting peace. May they know that You are with them - that You will keep them. Let them feel our prayers of comfort in this difficult time.
The baton has been passed. Let each of us examine ourselves, take hand of that baton and march forward to continue the work! May God bless the soul of Pastor Randy and his family.
To God be the Glory,
Mr. & Mrs. R. Smith
