NOW IN HEAVEN
The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

There are no words I can offer those that love you dearly to ease their pain except that you are a true hero. You ran toward danger while most individuals would have beat a fast retreat. The bravery you exhibited is beyond reproach. You will never be forgotten as you are a true hero and heroes never die.

Responding to New Orleans after Katrina with the Salvation Army, we spotted a young female NOLA officer in a parking lot in Algiers. She was very sweet when we offered food and water. I have never forgotten NOLA officers, who had so much to deal with. This young lady is an example of the bravery of the American Police Officer, May God Bless her family.

May the Good Lord watch over and give peace to your friends and family, as he has ours, these past few weeks. When are the courts going to properly address these "cop-killers"?? May you find peace in knowing that the Good Lord needed Nicola in Heaven. What a beautiful smile she had! (Christopher Nicholson:EOW 12/19/07)

My thoughts and prayers our with Nicola, her family, friends and the officers of the New Orleans Police Department. I have fond memories of working with Nicola in the seventh district. When the clouds went away and the sun came out the Lord looked down and saw a beautiful flower in his garden. He picked his flower and placed it among the rest in his home. We will never forget your courage and dedication. You will always be remembered.
