to the new orleans police department and to the family of officer cotton. let no your heart be troubled for she is safe with the almighty. she chose a profession that many fear, and are ridiculed for doing, but think about this she had the courage to do the job. my heart felt sympathy go out to you all, and may the Lord continue to watch between me and thee while we're absent one from another.

Once again we start a new yr and once again our "family" has to suffer .How can we encourage young people to go out into the streets and deal with the violence in an increasingly belittled job? Officer Cotton answered the call, and did so in a city that has suffered so much in the past few yrs.I know that mere words are nothing compared to a life so young and with so much potential that will never be .but if anything , Officer Cotton "STOOD UP" when there was no one else to do it~there is nothing and no one who can take that away from her and others like me who wear the uniform everyday will miss our "sister"......

Someone killed a policeman today and
A part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long lonely nights,
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
Just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yep, somebody killed a policeman today
In your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on the dark city street
And he stands at each rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all
And a part of America died.

Aloha e Police Officer Nicola Cotton,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe will NEVER be forgotten, nor will your sacrifice as the first female law enforcement officer this year be forgotten.

I pledge to become a continuum of the "ODMP Light" in which Visionary Founder, Chris Cosgriff created for all Fallen Law Enforcement Officers. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here on the ODMP a heartfelt reflection on behalf of a fallen officer.

Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP serves as a place where that continuum of "LIGHT" can be felt through the heart and soul of each and every person who honors our fallen heroes with a reflection.

May God comfort the family, loved ones, friends, and fellow officers who have lost their beloved one. May the reflections left fill the void until the light within shines again, as your fallen heroine is at rest with Jesus Christ and her soul has been set free. Feel the warmth of her smile from Heaven, she’s watching your back now. She’s that heroine who can never be replaced in this lifetime. I light a candle in your honor.

I wish you peace and love beyond all understanding. You are embraced as one of Hawaii's own with integrity, respect, and fairness as you are a fallen heroine. You will never be forgotten. 24-7-365 THANK YOU BLUE.

I just wanted to say that I am sorry for the lost of Police Officer Nicola Cotton. I lost my brother on May 16th of 2007 to a man who shot him over a traffic stop. He was a Kenosha County Sheriff's Deputy. I know how her family must be feeling and wanted them to know that I am praying for them and am sending my deepest sympathies to them and to the New Orleans Police Department.
