Reflections for Police Officer Nicola Diane Cotton
My whole being is shattered each time I hear of a fellow officer's death. NOPD is in serious need of more officers since Hurricane Katrina. Officer Cotton displayed the height of courage as she fought the male perp. twice her size........for 7 minutes according to NOPD Chief Riley. We need some help down here. 7 minutes is long enough for backup to arrive. This hurricane has shredded the very soul of the city. And please alert the public to assist an officer who is fighting for his/her life. This could have made a difference. We need stronger Good Samaratin laws. God bless the family of Officer Cotton and we honor her dedication and guts to take on this scumbag rape suspect.
I don't know her, but I heard she was only 5'2" and about 110 lbs. You go girl. You will not be forgotten. With all respect due a true LEO, Rest In Peace Nicola, you will be missed. JPSarge

So sorry to see such a young outstanding officer killed by a low life piece of ____! I know anger won't help, but after what the citizens went through with Hurricane Katrina. Now they lost a fine young officer who was trying to make a difference in her community. The community should be outraged! Where are you Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson? Make sure you have protest of 20,000 just like you did in Jena. Stand up for somebody who truly deserves it!

A Part Of America Died,
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

We will keep P.O. Cotton in our prayers and in the dark times know that the person who killed her had no repsect for live at all
