Reflections for Police Officer Nicola Diane Cotton

I don't ever remember seeing Cotton with anything but a smile on her face. Officers of the Sixth District will miss her deeply, and will never forget the person and officer that she was.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and police family of this brave young woman. This story is chillingly similar to that of my dept's Julie Jacks, eow 5/6/2002. Like Nicola, Julie fought her attacker until the last possible second. I am sure they will be great friends and partners when they patrol the golden streets of Heaven together!

Go home, we've got it.

Every time I check the ODMP, it is with dread that another officer has died. Yet I would not miss the opportunity to honor these brave officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. I honor Officer Cotton. From what I've read here, she was an extraordinary person, a true gem. My prayers go out to her family, friends, and the NOPD.

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain..." Revelation 21:4

to the family of Fallen Officer Cotton,
No words can ease the pain you are feeling. You lost a beautiful daughter, and New Orleans has lost one of their finest. Many have said that the call to serve is a call that cannot be ignored, I can imagine that is the calling that Nicola heard and answered. That is something to be proud of.
As the daughter of a Fallen Officer I know your pain and I know your loss. I wish you peace. Now and always, know that Nicola was in the service of her family, community and city. That will never be forgotten.
Always.....

Ofc Cotton your sacrafice will not go in vain. Because of you a dangerous person is off the streets. You were brave to approach him and attempt to apprehend him by yourself, knowing if you didn't that a dangerous person might escape. Because of that I know what kind of officer you must have been, god be with you, your family, and everyone at NOPD, your extended law enforcement community in DC is grieving with your love ones and dept.

To the Family and friends;

I am deeply sadden that such a beautiful courageous women has been taken from us. But being human she could only do so much in the world we live in today. Now she is in a place where nothing can stop her from protecting the people she cares about! I know right now it must be so hard to lose a love one but know she will always be with you, she will always protect you. I hope that it brings you peace to no that she is watching you and your family. She is okay now!

"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."
Karl Von Clausewitz
The Metro area Law Enforcement community lost a warrior. Officer Cotton chose the path of the warrior, may we all strive to live up to her example. My heartfelt sympathy to Officer Cottons family, and the members of the NOPD. Rest in Peace Officer Cotton.
