Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Nicola Diane Cotton

Your courage and heroism will always be remembered. Your bravery set's a true example of a True Police Officer. I am a former resident of the city of New Orleans, but I wish I could have been your back-up to assist you on that day my brave sister. Some people really just don't know what "we" as police officer's go through on a daily basis. I pray that the Lord will continue to be with your family and you will always be remembered and never forgotten. The bravery you have demonstrated will never be forgotten and will always be respected. I wish I had the opportunity of meeting such a brave fellow officer. Rest In Peace my Sister.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 4th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect, and your memory will always be honored and revered. .

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I hold your family in my heart's embrace today

.Rest In Peace

I had the pleasure to attend school with her in Texas. She was always positive the times I was around her. It is sad that I did not get enough time or take the time to become better acquainted with her. But it was a pleasure to have know her while I had the chance to. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

I had the wonderful pleasure of knowing Nicola as we were both students at North Texas Job Corp in 03! She was a very sweet young lady, so imagine my amazement when I heard the news that my buddy had been so brutally taken from this world by someone that needed serious mental assistance. I just wanted to say that I loved Nicola's boisterous personality, and I was always tickled by how fast she talked...serious, and sometimes silly, she was a joy to be around. Rest in the arms of our Father now Nicola...your job is done!
To Nicola's family, I know the pain of loss...but think of her now as she was, and know without a shadow of a doubt, your baby is an angel in heaven now! I will keep you so graciously in my prayers. God Bless us all!

I was doing a paper on the dangers of policing when I thought about a female officer that was killed in New Orleans a few yrs ago. I research the incident that led me to this website. May God continue to be with her family, friends, and all law enforcement officers.

Cotton,

I did not know you personally, but I heard about you while I was applying for a job with a law enforcement agency. They told us the story of how long you fought before the tragic ending; YOU ARE MY HERO. I am so obsessed with your heroism, that I often visit your memorial page, just to smile and say to myself, "She is an example to all current/future law enforcement officers". I have been watching your page for a while now, but something told me to leave a reflection today. You are the perfect example of "fight until they're in cuffs, or until you see the light". I hope that you watch down on me as I begin my transition from dispatcher to law enforcement officer. I will keep you, your family, and your extended family in blue in my prayers.
May you continue to rest in piece.

Officer Cotton, I was still in the academy when you and your unborn baby were murdered. I wish that I was in that fight with you sister. Your life and your tragic death motivate me everyday now in patrol. I think about the seven minutes that you fought for your life and I've committed to workout, run and train harder in your honor and in honor of all fallen sisters. You are not forgotten. Keep watching over us. God Bless & keep yours.

When i first heard of your death while watching CNN (2 yrs ago)I only heard your last name and i remember thinking how sad it was for you to be murdered so young and to also be pregnant. I never saw the picture of you until this morning while i was on youtube and i immediately knew who you were because i always did like your name (Nicola) and tears began to stream down my face. I remember you from Vacation Bible School @ First Evangelist Missionary Baptist Church (Sister Taylor's class). Even though we were kids back then i knew there was something special about you and that smile of yours was contagious. May you Rest In Peace. I'll see you in Heaven One day.

To any family members or friends of Ofc. Cotton. What a tragic loss. She was a real hero and acted to protect the public to the best of her ability.
I had wanted to join the Crisis Unit for a long time and when this tragedy happened, I finally got moving. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope perhaps through the work of the Crisis Unit, we can help avoid other losses like this.

Cotton,
Some time has passed since you left. I still think about the times we spent together in the unit while I was training you. I still remember the twinkle in your eyes when I would tell you "Good job Kid". I remember the conversations we would have between calls, and how funny it was to hear you say "South Saratoga". How you entertained the whole platoon with your personality. But what I remember the most was your dedication to the job. I miss you kid. One of the biggest pills I've ever had to swallow was knowing that you weren't comming to roll call anymore. So until I see you again, keep ya head up, eyes open and your ears to the ground for me up there. Love you.

I just recently learned of your senseless murder and as usual, am totally outraged, more so in the details of your assasination, and the fact that you were carrying a child! Although I am basically reading an 'obituary', your smile made me smile, for we all know police officers tend to want to look tough, yet we also know, most of us are just big kids who want to keep our neighborhoods safe for the real kids! Officer Cotton, I truly hope you are resting in peace, that your killer lives every day in pain and misery, and should there be an afterlife, he continues to do so. I hope your family, friends and co-workers find solace in that your passing keeps others like myself motivated to pursue those who feel the need to break laws and violate our freedoms!
