How sad that eight more children are now fatherless because of cruel people in this world! Thank you Officer Barker for the job you did.

You were my Academy-mate and an excellent officer and it is with a heavy heart that I had to help investigate your death. I will forever picture you in class, facing down every problem with a smile and a funny face as you stated, "Drive on, 6-9, drive on." Nothing bothered you, and you faced every challenge with courage and conviction. DeKalb County suffered a serious loss, and you will be greatly missed.
Drive on, Barker, drive on. We'll see you again someday.

Thou will keep thee in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on him, because he trusted in him.
I met Sgt Eric Barker in 2005 when I was asked to install a hardwood floor for him and his wife at there home. A wonderful person I found him to be, very warm, and very pleasant, just a good man trying to make life better for his family. I met his lovely wife and wonderful boys and I just fell in love with them. While I was only there to do a job. I found a very pleasant family life and warm home. To Mrs. Barker and family, I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy, prayers, and to let u know whatever I and my family can do for you please feel free to call on us. You have lost a great man, soldier, husband, father, son, brother, and just a Great Guy, we love you all and are praying for you continuously. Please know we are here for you.

Every morning I check the odmp web site to see what tragedies have impacted our profession in the last 24 hours. I pass the imformation on to cadets in our basic academy so that they can see what they are up against when they graduate and to share with them the stories of these brave men and women.
Today, I am especially saddened to see such young officers gunned down so cowardly.
To the family of Officer Baker, please know that he died the most noble way...helping his fellow man. Although it is a tragedy, he is a hero and Eric is seated at the side of the Father now.
My prayers go out to all of Officer Baker's co-workers and family.
God Bless.

Barker,
" Drive On" as you always said in the academy. Rest in Peace you did a fine job, and nobody will tell me or prove to me that you did not. I know because I was there in the begining of your tenure and at the end. I saw that you were carrying on your class moto from the 69th academy. Shake it out and drive on my brother.

Barker, you will surely missed brother. I remember sitting in front of you in your "original=66" academy until you got deployed and you always made us laugh in the classroom and on the PT field. I saw you at the jail last week and the last thing you said to me was "keep it real".....and trust me i will always keep it real. We got the streets from from here Eric, may you rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

This is just an awful situation!! Black on Black crime has got to stop. Officer Eric Barker was an elementary class mate of mine at Minnie Howell Elementary School in S.E. Atlanta. I remember him as a bright and enegetic young guy that had a bright future. We went our separate ways after elementary school, but I saw him again in 2002 as I was deploying with the Army. We remininced about the old days and he told me that he worked as a Public Affairs NCO with the Army Reserves. I was shocked when I heard the name and saw the picture on the news. May God Bless his family in this most difficult time.

To the Barker Family -I am so sorry for your loss. This next week will be one of the toughest in your life...The ceremony that you will experience is an amazing (and difficult) tribute to your officer's life. Look to your family, friends, Police Department, and faith for strength at this devastating time. I wish you peace at such a difficult time.

My heart felt sympathies on your loss. I have lost 3 Officers in my years at the 67th Precinct and it doesn't get any easier. In time the pain will diminish but you will never forget. Civilians just can't comprehend that it's like loosing a member of your family. Just know that I am grieving along with you and you'll all be in my prayers. Stay strong and be safe my brothers in arms.
