My heartfelt condolences go out to both officer’s families, friends and fellow police officers.

Eric was my friend, fellow soldier and brother.

My only wish is for everyone to remember him, as I knew him.

An exemplary soldier, law enforcement professional, devoted husband, father and trusted friend.

When I read details of the incident, I immediately knew Staff Sergeant Barker was doing what we had trained on many times during our shared deployments in Bosnia (97-98) and Afghanistan. (02-03)

He was faithfully backing up a partner.

Eric and Ricky are now in a far better place, and we shall all meet again in God's presence.

Rest assured officers, we will provide your back up from here on.

SSG Barker, as I knew him in the Army Reserve, was a man of tremendous character, conviction and courage. I had the honor to serve with SSG Barker during the last 5 years and will deeply miss him. He was a Christian and we often talked about our Faith and how to be better Husbands to our Wives and Dads to our children. Thank you SSG Barker for your service to our Country and for being my friend, may God Bless you.
To Mrs. Barker and Family, my deepest condolences. I will remember you in my prayers and if there is ever anything I can do for you, please, give me the honor of helping. May God bless you.

Staff Sergeant Barker, you were my right-hand man at the 300th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment at Ft. Gillem. It is a small unit, so we all tended to be pretty close. Your wry sense of humor caused a lot of heartfelt laughter on my part. You could tell the most outrageous stories with the straightest face.....

My memories of you are etched in my psyche -- I have always thought very highly of you - as a man, husband, father, Soldier, and Officer of the Law. Your courage and integrity were always most prominent. I am proud to have known and served with you.

SSG Eric Barker, it has been an honor .... you will be missed.
