Its painful to lay in bed at night knowing you two great officers are not coming home. I have close ties with the guys who work south pct and I sit and listen to what you all go through. Thank you for trying to make South DeKalb a better place to live. I know the pain your families are going through and I share their pain. God will heal all in time. You guys will be missed.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Officer Barker, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.
Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

First I would like to let the family know that my heart is with you in your time of sorrow. Eric was a wonderful man. He was the type of person that could give you hope when you could not find it in yourself to believe. Althought it is so hard to believe that his preciuos life has come to an end on this Earth, I know that he will always be working his call in the Wonderful place of Heaven.
To his mother, I will pray everyday that God will give you the strength that you wil need to go on in life(keeping Eric's dreams alive). Also, I want to take this time to let brothers know that my prayers are with you. And to his lovely wife and children, whom I have never met, I pray that God be with you all and that every day is a day of strenth and empowerment because the Eric I knew would have not wanted it any other way. God bless you all and in time may His peace be with you.
With the greatest love that I could send. I love you all.

"…They were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

I will never forget the fun that we had while we were in class 69 together, how close we all were, meeting each others family, both being assined to south where we new that was where all the "action" was, I will never forget that phone call telling me to come in that we had 2 officers down and one of them was you. Now as I prepare too stand watch over you and act as a member of the honor guard, I only wounder why,why do we do this job,its simple we do it so other people dont have to,my heart goes out to your family.

It is hard to believe that this happened to our department again. It seems like just yesterday that we lost "STEP". I to worked South Precinct and know what it takes to work the area. You and Barker are heroes in my eyes and I pray that Justice will be served to those responsible. Your families should be proud what you have done and for the service you both gave to your country and this department. You both will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace my brothers.
