I know the pain of losing one of my troopers to a car accident. My heart goes out to Deputy Pursifull's family, friends, fellow LEOs and his dispatchers. Let your minds and hearts take solace in knowing you did all you could do for him. Thank you Deputy Pursifull and K-9 King for your ultimate sacrifices in the name of keeping the peace...Blessed are the peacemakers.

My 2 great-grandfathers both served as Sheriffs in Kentucky (Greenup and Lawrence Counties). My brother is a K-9 handler in DC.

I am so deeply sorry for what has happened. God Bless Deputy Pursifull and his family. Rest in Peace, we will take it from here. I know you will be on watch for us from above.

I read this wonderful poem back in 2006 when Deputy Matt Williams and his K9 partner, Diogi, were shot and killed. Only a K-9 handler truly knows the love and respect you share with your partner. I hope this provides a little peace of mind for those who know and love you.

"I'll Wait"

A police K9 explained to St. Peter
I'd rather stay here,
Outside the Pearly Gate.
I can’t come in yet, you see,
as my handler and partner is not yet with me.
I’ll be very quiet as I sit and wait,
I'll watch over him and pray that he's late.
Because those who love him dearly,
Still need his protection.
And the ones who don’t know him,
But still need his help.
I'll be very patient and wait,
I'll never let out a whimper or yelp.
I’ll be chewing my celestial bone,
Waiting for my partner to come home.
It would not be right if I went in alone,
For without my partner you see;
It just wouldn't be Heaven to me,
Without crossing the gates
Right by his side.

As a Kentucky State Police Dispatcher the most dreaded words you could ever hear is "Officer Down". Law enforcement is a very close family. When one grieves we all grieve. Deputy Sean Pursifull and K-9 King was taken from this world much too soon. Their lives were taken by two young men who had no respect for themselves or others, but yet they walked away unharmed. To Sean's family, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. May God be with you at this time of sorrow and may he continue to be by your side always. To Sean and K-9 King, thank you for your bravery and trying to make our society a safe place to live. You patrolled our streets together and now you are walking the streets in a better world together. Sean and King, I pray justice will be served for you both. God Bless you and Rest in Peace.

I don’t know where to even begin. I am at a complete loss of words. Let me start by saying that my heart truly goes out to Dep. Pursiful’s family. My husband is a K-9 handler for the Kentucky State Police and we reside in Bell County. I actually had a call from a friend to make sure that it wasn’t my husband that was killed that night because he often works Bell County as well. As I hung up the phone my heart began to break as I began to feel and realize the pain that Sean’s family must be feeling. Not only did they loose one member of their family they lost two. For I know they feel a great loss for King as well. I pray that God will ease their pain and remember that Dep. Pursiful and King are watching over you from above. Know that they will never be forgotten and we all share your pain.
