Reflections for Police Officer Christopher Nicholson
I am deeply saddened by the loss of a great Police Officer. I only knew Officer Nicholson during his tenure at the Smithsburg Police Department. I had a great respect for his ambition for law enforcement and respected him not only as a Police Officer, but as a man.
I was working last night as the tragic events occurred and was present as the suspect was apprehended. Officer Nicholson may now rest peacefully in our great Lord's heaven.
I will miss responded to calls in Smithsburg knowing that car number 592 will not be covering my back.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Officer Nicholson during this difficult and trying time.
He will be missed!!

On December 19, 2007, the Washington County (MD) law enforcement community lost one of our own. I was off-duty when I learned that a friend, Officer Chris Nicholson was killed in the line of duty.
I live and patrol in the area surrounding the town of Smithsburg and had frequent, almost daily, contacts with Chris. I am priviledged to have gotten to know Chris and become his friend.
No matter how badly the patrol shift may have gone, Chris would crack a smile, throw his hands in the air and laugh. Nothing bothered Chris because he was fortunate enough to do what he loved, be a cop.
Chris was the last person to complain but the first to offer his help. On countless occassions, Chris would be behind on report, but he would set them aside and offer to assist on a call. I am certain that on the next "hot" call that I run, Chris will be looking down and watching my back!
My sincerest sympathy goes out to Chris' family. I am holding you all and Chris in my prayers.
Chris, you'll be sorely missed. Heroes may fall but they are never forgotten. You can rest now, we have the watch.
