Through lonely nights and shattered dreams
An officer's pride like a star gleams

Through pain, suffering, and discontent
An officer's will is never bent

These men who will stand alone and with pride
A trait that is believed to have long ago died

We are highly misunderstood and hated at times
Bound by a code which draws certain lines

Not knowing if you'll make it to see the light of day
Gives a new outlook on life and the way that you pray

Lord keep us safe on that desolate street
Till the next time my friend that's where we'll meet

Dispatcher, MdTA

"THE CHOSEN FEW"
Written by Justin Nelson

From this one town
a few were found
brave enough to answer the call.
They acted courageous knowing full well
they might sacrifice their all.

They faced the night
with a tremendous fight,
not knowing the pain that would be felt by all,
because now their names were to be added to the "Wall".

Their courageous last stand with weapons in hand
will always be remembered in this now quiet land.

They wore a star or a shield
and were sworn to protect everyone in the field.
They gave their lives with a fight
now they can soon see the light,
from the Lord up above
who always shows his eternal love.
They say O' Lord with their tears in hand,
please let us be the last who have fallen from this land.

My deepest sympathies go to his family and girlfriend. I will never forget you, brother. Rest in Peace.

Although I did not know you, your sacrifice will never be forgotten by the citizens and fellow police officers nationwide. As you are aware each of us that wear this badge understand and accept the risks that go with this profession. I was working on the evening that this incident took our brother law enforcement offier, and it does make me sad, however, we must honor his committment and dedication to protect the citizens of Smithburg and our great nation. Rest in peace brother as we will not forget you!!
