You were my first love, my high school sweetheart, and we spent four incredible years together. The tragic death of Officer Nicholson leaves me choked up beyond words. I first heard about his death on Thursday morning when I saw a fellow deputy wearing his mourning ribbon across his badge. I did not know Chris, but the news was like discovering you lost one of your own family members.

I pray for Chris' family, friends, and the town of Smithsburg while dealing with the loss of a hero who demonstrated such true courage. I pray that God provides you comfort in your time of grieving. Let his service today not only be a time for grieving but a time to celebrate and honor his life.
