Reflections for Detective Kent Haws

Officer Haws and I worked for the same department. However, I had resigned shortly before he began working for TCSO. Ironically, I worked with his wife at the Tulare Co. Office of Education after leaving the Sheriff's department. I formally met Kent through fellow deputies and also through his wife Francis. Our kids went to school in Exeter and competed in the the swim team there. I last saw Kent on 12/7/07 at a Gang Summit here in Visalia. I didn't get a chance to talk to him at that time and I wish I would have. Officer Kent was a good man and good officer. He will not be forgotten and I wish I could have gotten to know him better.

Say A Prayer For All of His Family and All of His Friends. Be there for Frances and the boys in any capacity that you can. That is all we can do. He isn't the first and he won't be the last officer to die for us. They know what they signed up for and he died doing what he loved. He will be missed and he will never be forgotten.

It's times like these that I regret resigning from the Sheriff's department. I may be going back.

HERE IS QUOTE THAT I FEEL IS FITTING FOR OFFICER KENT

“This Country Will Not Be A Good Place For Any Of Us To Live In Unless We Make It A Good Place For All Of Us To Live In.”

~ Theodore Roosevelt (the twenty-sixth President of the United States)

SPARKPEOPLE TRANSLATION:

Strong citizens make a strong community. That’s a gimme. But have you ever thought of how strong communities create strong citizens? One possible shortcut to your own self-improvement may be to improve your surroundings first. When you improve something – anything – in your community, you’re building your resource base. It becomes a source of energy, talent and support that you can draw on for years to come. You and your neighbors can all learn more, improve more, achieve more when you work together to make it happen. You have the power right now to make the world just a little better for someone. You also have the ability to give them that same power.

"A Part Of America Died,"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.
*anonymous*
Another senseless killing from someone who cared nothing about the value of life.
What a horrible loss to family friends and community.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
