Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer William Eric Freeman

My prayers go out to Officer Freeman and his family. My father's family lives near Huntsville and near Fayetteville, TN., so I feel a connection to that area. Ofc. Freeman is in a better place and his heroics will not be forgotten.

Chicago Police Department

Eric,
You will never be forgotten. Leslie and your children have had the best gift of all, "YOU". They loved and cherished you like no other, you were everything to them. Your police family has been blessed as well. It was a honor to know you. God Bless you and your family.

You will be missed, Sondra

God bless your family!

Who cries for the COP...
Walking his beat.
Down a mean street..
Where violent men hold sway..
Where life is cheap...
And Death doth keep..
His tally day by day..
Who cries for the cop..
When assault is made..
With flashing blade..
And guns that shatter the night..
And scanners sound...
Of "Officer down !"
Tells of his helpless plight...
Who cries for the cop...
When ambulance wail.
Tells a mournful tale...
Bringing tears to a widow's eyes...
Who gives a dang..
When guns go bang...
And a brave policemen dies?
Who cries for the cop...
With bloodstained shield...
As life doth yield...
And his labored heartbeats stop?
Tell me true... I'm asking YOU...
Who cares ? Who cries for the COP?

I just wanted to say GOD BLESS you for giving the ultimate sacrifice to try and keep us safe from those who don't care about others. I did not know you, but my neice is engaged to your nephew Troy. The city was a better place because of you and your dedication to helping others. May GOD be with you and watch over your family and children. There is a special place in Heaven for people like you, and we know that you are now with Our Heavenly Father. You will be missed.

Yet another brave man taken from the ranks of the Huntsville Police Department. While I grieve for Leslie and the children, my thoughts also remain with all of our officers, and with their families as they continue to worry and pray for their love one to come home at the end of his or her shift.
I am once again honored by the manner in which this department conducts themselves in times like these. When we discussed the worry we had for our officers, Captain Bryant said it best, "the more you ask of these officers, the more they respond in critical times, they are amazing". Eric was truly an amazing hero to us all.

I remember the first time Eric and I worked together: I had just gone 10-8 on third shift and was dispatched to back up Eric on a traffic stop off of Whitesburg. The kid he'd stopped had drugs and Eric was also waiting for a STAC unit to respond. When I got there, Eric just grinned at me and said," What took you so long? Did you stop and get a biscuit?" We both just laughed before getting back to business...... I know we all have a lot of great memories like that and that's how I'm going to remember him....laughing and having a good time being a policeman!
Eric, we love you and we miss you, brother!

to hold urself responsible for the death of another, when you had no part of the wrong doing--that is silly. eric, my man, there are alot of people feeling guilty and responsible right now. myself included. i know you'd be like, come on now, but its hard to rationalize when you're mad at the world because of what's happened. the only one that's guilty is that dirty ugly hobo man, and i KNOW you were doing what you loved. it's just hard. wow, riding to the cemetery yesterday, even as solemn as the whole deal was, i could see your face lighting up at the honor of it all. it was definitely your day--i just wish i could do more. you'd think i could help a little--i was your youngest's age when my parents died, and your oldest's age when the ones that raised me died--yet, the words still don't come. just know i'm doing my best kid. like i said, i'm back again one more time, but as always, might not be the last time. grrr! :) i love you brother.

one more time
might not be the last

You are my sons age. You could be my son. I never knew you, but your passing touches every member of our Police family. No less than any troop now serving in our military, you served our country on a front line.
Honor - Duty - Loyalty; are not mere words; they represent what we all serve for. It is a consolation to me to know you rest in the Hands of God now. Stand easy, you have done your duty.
