Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jonathan D. Wallace
Zeal for the public good is the characteristic of a man of honor and a gentleman... -Sir Richard Steele
Deputy Wallace -- Your dedication to the good of your community will not be forgotten.
To all those touched by the loss of Deputy Wallace -- To lose two heroes at once has got to be devastating. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Wallace and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Deputy Wallace has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.
To the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Wallace, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Wallace is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.

THE FINAL INSPECTION
The Policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't..... I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

It was only a week before this incident that we were all eating ribs with you that your family cooked in Pahokee. Some of the best BBQ we had ever had. I agree with everyone, you had a certain way about you to make everyone happy. You were always positive and eager to work. Your career was cut short but your memory will last forever. RIP my brother and my family and I will keep your family in our prayers.

I have lived in Palm Beach County since 1968. I moved to Moore Haven with my mother and father and then got a job at Pratt & Whitney and I have been in Palm Beach County since then. I appreciate all the hard work that the deputies do and I really feel bad when something happens to them. I want to give my deep condolences to the family of Deputy Wallace as well as all his friends and the members of the PBSO.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Deputy Wallance, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.
Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest
