"Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His saints."
Psalm 116:15
It was 16 years ago today when your watch ended. I remember it like it was yesterday. Your law enforcement career had just begun. I remember your smile, you just seemed to bring light to everyone around you with that big smile of yours!
I remember being by your family’s side while they grieved, we all grieved for their loss and heavens gain.
To the family, friends and coworkers reading this, know that God loves you, and I love you; my prayers are for us all, that we would one day see the King of kings and Lord of lords together in heaven.

Hi Officer Miller. I’m sorry about what happened to you but I hope you know that your legacy is still strong on this earth. I first learned about your story as a cadet in the academy. Today I heard your story again while undergoing EVOC at Alameda SO. A little piece of your story will now be with me for the rest of my career. You won’t be forgotten sir. Rest in peace.

Thank you for your dedicated service. Civilians including myself will never know the true danger that any Police Officer will face until he or she will put on the badge that you proudly carry. Rest In Peace Officer John Miller.

It was an honor to stand by with you on that dark, chilly night. It was the most difficult thing I've had to do, but it was a privilege. You're not forgotten here on earth. Watch over us from paradise.

Hey John, I know we never met, but I think of you all the time. When our department asked me to give training in the reduction of Officer fatalities, I was excited. You see, on Sep. of 2011, I was chasing someone and hit a tree at an extremely high speed. I lost my right leg, but I was able to return to full duty. I have a hard time with the training, but it helps me appreciate how lucky I am to be here. I try to talk about you, but I realize how similar our accidents were and I just start to cry. I've heard Stephanie talk at the Academy about your accident and the kids, so let me tell you, she is a strong and wonderful person and your children sound great. Just thinking about Stephanie and the other Wives and families of fallen Officers, allows me to help keep your memories alive.
P.S.
You know, I have five children and a wonderful wife that look up to me, but I could only hope that they look up to me like your family looks up to you. I will continue praying for you and your wonderful family John. Thank you:)

A note to my brother:
so Jim this is the info about the JP Miller Memorial Hwy I saw on the sign on the way in to see you at prox. 11pm on Hwy 580. I had been looking to the left (Eastbound side) as I traveled West but for some reason I glanced right and saw the Memorial sign. This is the JP Miller I honored in 2008 at the Officer Down Memorial site, he passed on my birthday in 2007. My good friend Officer Henry Doeding recently passed from cancer. He was a brother officer to Officer Miller. "Hank" my prayer partner was shot in the line of duty, January 29 1985. Here is the LA Times article Passing motorists who came to the aid of a CHP officer who was being attacked by a stolen car suspect were honored with certificates for their heroism from the California Highway Patrol. Tracy Torgerson, Donald Pendry, Tim Donovan, David Allan and Janice Wolfe were given the awards at a recent ceremony in Santa Ana. On Jan. 29, Officer Henry Doeding, an 18-year CHP veteran, had pulled a motorist over on the Santa Ana Freeway in Orange for running a red light on an on-ramp. When he learned from the radio dispatcher that the car had been reported stolen, Doeding called for police assistance. But before other officers arrived, the motorist got out of his car, grabbed Doeding's night stick and began beating him on the head. Seeing the officer in trouble, the motorists pulled over and came to Doeding's aid by getting the baton away from the suspect, calling in for help and administering first aid.
